Tone, especially sarcasm, I can usually pick up on when spoken; however, it's not always easy for me to discern from written words. So, when unsure, I usually give the benefit of doubt to the poster IF I am familiar with his/her posting history. I took Twoton's post to be sarcastic as he described. Not so sure about the clever part, though...;)

A long time ago there was a rumor that sarcasm would be indicated by italic green font, decided by concensus. I've used it on occasion, but it's so rare that I don't think anyone would recognize it for what it is.

Just to be clear, I do not, nor have I ever, supported Trump. However, I submit that every once in a while he's not entirely wrong. Of course, then he barfs all over everything and covers it all with a stinking mess.

There was a time when headlines about the president making bizarre 3am twitter accusations would have been immediately recognizable as satire.

Nowadays reading any Trump story is like reading The Onion.

Saturday Night Live doesn't even need writers anymore. Just transcribe the White House statements and Twitter feeds for the week and you're good to go.
