All UK citizens living in EU countries and EU citizens living in the UK before the 31st December 2020, were automatically entitled to residency as per the withdrawal agreement. I went back to the UK for a year and then returned here after the 30th June deadline, but given that the UK was in a lockdown from January to Mid May, and Germany then banned UK residents from coming from late May to early July, so that deadline was impossible to meet. I came back in August and had four months of very infrequent e-mails from an extremely slow bureaucracy, but eventually, they gave me what I wanted.
