I'm quitting cannabis and found that I've lost orgasm potency without it

I've been a heavy cannabis user for a very long time, whether smoking or eating, but I'm taking a long break to save money and to experiment with untangling myself from my chemical dependencies.

I've always felt like I was a really hard cummer. Orgasms could last up to forty-five seconds, i'd always feel like i was cumming with my whole body from head to toe, and it'd be impossible for me to avoid being vocal even when I'm alone, I wouldn't be able to hold in my loud moans and grunts. My whole body would involuntarily convulse and curl into itself. Then afterwards such a serene floating peace like I had become weightless and had released all tension in my body. I'd always be surprised and confused when i slept with men who would cum without warning without making any sounds or even without having any involuntary body convulsions. I thought I was just gifted with a special orgasm potency.

But I hadn't considered that maybe this potency has come from the fact that I've been stoned for nearly fifteen years. I had forgotten how intense the orgasms were when I first started cannabis. Now that I've stopped using cannabis, orgasms feel like next to nothing. They don't even release my tension anymore. They just happen and it's over and it feels like nothing happened. It's become boring. I'm not even that interested in sex or orgasms anymore because they don't feel like much.

Has anybody had this issue when ceasing cannabis use? Have you found any tricks or methods to getting your orgasm potency back without cannabis? I was going to post this in "the healthy penis" but then thought there might be females that relate to this too, since the bioelectricity that produces orgasms is the same in both sexes, I want to hear from anyone who's had this issue and how they've overcome it.

All the best Not!
Not the same but... I'm 48 hrs into my stopping...I decided to stop as I'd lost some of my sexual intensity. Still big libido but not performing as I'd like...both in terms of orgasm and stiffness.

Watching this space...Good luck

Hmm... Where to start..?

Bringing out my inner Freud... You mention "untangling yourself from chemical dependencies..."
Perhaps we need to talk about this a bit..? Can you just come and go with it's consumption? Or are you "all in" when it comes to getting high? Are compulsive in other areas?

I've enjoyed weed off and on for almost 50 years (dang that's a long time!). Weed has always allowed me to enjoy great sex. Never a down side. Yes, orgasms are better when high. No doubt! Are they bad when not high? Nope. But they are better when I am. I can pick and chose when I get high so I tend to base it around leisure activities up to and including sex.

I mean i guess you could say that when I consume cannabis then I consume it regularly/daily. Perhaps not in the mornings but you know if I eat some RSO before bedtime I'll wake up high so there's no need to consume in the mornings. I'm not flipping tables over or having temper tantrums without it or anything. When I choose to stop I'm usually fine except for a little extra restlessness and finding life (and apparently sexual sensation) a little bit duller. I'm actually liking not being high at the moment, I'm finding myself being creative with my energy in ways I wouldn't be otherwise, but I am concerned with the loss of libido and dulled sexual sensation. But yeah I guess you could say I'm all in, being stoned was definitely my default unless I'm deliberately taking a break. It's a big part of my lifestyle, I'm a musician, I play in a Grateful Dead cover band so there's a lot of partying and getting high in my life. But it seems even my friends are also participating in a bit of a "drynuary" at the moment. We're all dialing it down a bit right now; it feels right.

Nothing wrong with pulling back a bit. I do that as well. Other than the occational wine or beer, pot's my thing. Like you, a musician (hobby) as well. Of the group I play with from time to time only about half still smoke weed. I guess my point is that picking a fixed point to stop is more dramatic. I tend to use it a couple times a week these days. I too feel more productive with songwriting when I'm not high. That said, I get lots of partial random ideas when I am so there's that part of it. Weed seems to make things take a bit longer to complete. Ya, take a break then come back to it when you're feeling "frisky".

I will say straight up I don't do it every night... It's usually more a few times a week and centered around fucking usually once or twice a week so maybe that's why it's still special to me. I could see it maybe getting old if I did it every night eventually

Which reminds me I'm about to take a hit and have rough sex lol

UPDATE: after almost two weeks off of THC, Orgasm potency is starting to return, but only with the aid of visual stimulation/porn. Imagination alone doesn't quite suffice for a potent orgasm like it used to. I've had some nice hard orgasms recently after watching porn for a while. And my load size is finally returning to normal, it's nice for it to hit my chest again, instead of just dribbling below my belly button which was all i got within the first week of quitting.

Of course, i'm only referring to masturbation, i haven't had sex yet since quitting, but i'm a no recip-type gay bottom anyway and don't like others to get me off. I've always been more into getting other men off then treating myself later when I'm alone, so my scientific process here will probably just be focusing on masturbation as its variable.

anyway, my observations are starting to make me suspect that the loss of orgasm potency is merely withdrawal symptom that will subside with time. Other things are normalizing for me, i guess my own internal cannabinoids are starting to reset, so this is good. I want to keep this thread specifically about how THC relates to orgasm potency, but if anyone is curious about any other changes since quitting, feel free to PM me and I'd be happy to discuss it. This is an incredible decision I've made for myself that I'm very happy with.

Long time consumer here.

I'll never quit. Ever.. But I'll also never try to tell anyone else that my decision should be theirs as well.

Best to you.
weed is better for chicks. Us fellas start to mess with our nerve signals after smoking weed for a long time. It sucks but eventually the penis has trouble urinating and ejaculating and staying erect after years of smoking. Especially blunts if you smoked blunts or cigar wraps with weed it messes your dick up. Best bet is the vaporizer every time i use it I have more clarify after my high goes away instead of brain fog. I say you take a Tolerance break and then go back to smoking.

um are you sure you just didn't get so high that you forgot to drink water? I never had any of those problems. The problem this thread refers to is sexual dysfunction AFTER ceasing cannabis use. I've never experienced any sexual (or urinary) dysfunction while high, on the contrary, it's always been a sexual enhancer for me. After two and a half weeks since ceasing cannabis use, my sexual function is returning to normal, the symptoms i was concerned with only lasted for the first week, and I'm convinced what I was dealing with was simply withdrawal symptoms.

I would say what I've learned from this is that the primary withdrawal symptom of ceasing cannabis use is *anhedonia*, I think that's the exact word for what I was struggling with. The anhedonia seems to subside after just one week, since cannabis addiction is fairly benign and easy to stop as long as you truly want to stop.

Long time pot-user here(25 years). I’m sorry but almost none of what you typed is true, of marijuana at least.

Firstly, the erection and other issues you speak of might better be associated with smoking tobacco like cigarettes because they constrict blood vessels and as we know, blood flow is essential to keeping and maintaining an erection.

Secondarily, marijuana both awakens the senses and triggers the release of chemicals in the brain that both allow one to feel heightened sensitivity to pleasure. This is why many people - men and women - feel such an erogenous surge when they ingest pot. So, not to be argumentative but I don’t know a single man that has experienced what you describe as it relates to sex and pot.

One point we do agree on is that vaping weed vs smoking it does give you a lot more mental clarity the next day.

And to the original poster, I’m glad the situation is turning around for you! I was going to post the exact thing you say you are now realizing.

I have stopped smoking pot off and on numerous times over the years and experienced exactly what you described- lowered sexual desire and weaker orgasms. But only for a time.

Consider this: our bodies are incredibly adaptive. When your body is used to getting a substance for as long as you were smoking, it changes the way your brain produces certain chemicals. It also associates certain substances with certain acts (Think Pavlov and the dog). It takes time for your body to ‘unlearn’ the old order of things before it can start back doing things the way nature intended, which is releasing its own pleasure-inducing neurotransmitters without any outside help like the THC in marijuana.

This all takes time but it sounds like you are beginning to see that. I’m confident that in the coming weeks/months you are going to see your arousal/erections/orgasms become even more powerful as your body continues to naturally produce more dopamine, and you teach it again how wonderful sex is without the pot.

Everything in moderation. The first thing you need to realize is that everybody does drugs. Whether it comes in the form of a cigarette or a Coca-Cola. Drugs are everywhere. They're in our food. They're in our tap water. They're literally everywhere. But what you also have to understand is not all drugs are demonized. The government has no problem legalizing Tylenol that can stop your heart if you take too many, but seems to have a big problem with legalizing cannabis that no one in the history of marijuana has ever overdosed on. Lol. That is not to say that cannabis is not harmful, once again, everything in moderation. Even something as innocent as water can be bad for our healths if overdone (i.e. hyponatremia). If you wanna stop cannabis-use altogether for personal reasons, so be it. But if you're stopping because of the taboo that surrounds marijuana, that just seems silly because from a scientific standpoint, THC is much less dangerous than acetaminophen. You can reduce your cannabis usage, but I personally will probably never stop completely. Just giving my two cents opinion.

This thread is *not* about the ethics of cannabis use or cannabis legalization. Please read the thread title and the original post, and if you're interested in the actual topic of the thread, then you can read the following posts in the thread. And then you might have a chance to post something that's actually on topic. No one here is lecturing anyone on what they put in their body. This thread is about how cannabis withdrawals relate to sexual health. I'd really like to keep this thread on topic.

Then you should probably ask your doctor and not a bunch of strangers online. My suggestion to you was to reduce/moderate your cannabis usage if you believe it is affecting your physical/sexual health. I understand that health care is expensive AF, but any questions you have that are medically related should be directed to medical professionals in a clinic, not horny strangers on an adult website. But what do I know?:emoji_shrug::emoji_v:

Again, you've failed to understand me and the topic. Cannabis never effected my sexual health, but stopping it temporarily did. But at this point I'm going to have to give up on your ability to absorb information.
