The United States Supreme Court ruled on matters related to porn decades ago.

However, the USSC also ruled decades ago (5 decades?) on the matter of abortion, and we all know what happened there.

So, at this point in time, I'd say most anything is possible. I myself would never had said this even 15 years ago, but please, get out there and vote Democratic in every possible election for the foreseeable future. We need to drive these crazies out of office.

Republicans love to blame porn as an issue.
Just like Republicans love using the term "the gay agenda" - but I use the term "the Republican agenda".
And prohibiting porn, in my eyes, is all apart of the Republican agenda.
First comes prohibiting porn, then prohibiting LGBT anything (marriage, surrogacy, etc.), and after all that, will come the prohibition of interracial marriage.

won't happen... why?... too much money involved. where there is a lot of money to be made and transacted through, there will be silent political supporters behind it.

the absolute worse case is where the supreme court kicks it back down to the states but even then, not all states will likely jump on this so easily either. the logistics of banning porn across the country in all types of media will be a nightmare. even defining what constitutes "porn" will be a litigation quagmire.

my take is that we will see bitcoin banned before porn.

We saw that in Britain in the 90's when John Major tried to perk up the Conservative's flagging ratings with his "Back to basics" campaign. Porn has no barriers amongst political and social ideologies, just about every demographic consumes it on some level in some fashion. The truth is Republicans love porn! They just assume their constituents are too stupid to realize that. It's posturing for votes and then once they're elected they forget about it and blame the Democrats when nothing is done.

Not going to happen. He wants to redefine the idea of obscenity and ban what is sexually suggestive. For this to be a success, ultimately any media that insinuates sexual content must be banned. This will not be exclusive to porn. (That's just the low fruit)
Media platforms such as onlyfans, twitter, instagram, facebook, online chat, dating apps, must all be blocked as well because they cannot control what other people outside of US will post.
Also no such content in movies and television, novels, comics, art, advertising, fashion. So many movies and series falls into this. You will see some episodes removed or the whole series altogether.
This will create a void in the industries as it effectively removes the US presence from them which will then be filled by other countries. Not to mention it increases the immediate demand for such content within US which means apart from using a VPN, people will have to visit other countries for it and their money along with them.

Policing this will be a massive task. Having to sieve through all current and future media and finding a way to detect people pass their VPN. Next: What to do with the people they catch? Fines?

He cant have this effort half baked or else his supporters will see him as incompetent.

I doubt he truly sees this as feasible. For one, it doesn't solve anything. So the only logic to such a move is, as mentioned by earlier posters, grandstanding. And the satisfaction of seeing those who object squirm and froth while giving a self pat in the back for "doing something". Don't give them that.
