On a serious note Mitch; you need to join my party, drop house prices by 40% to make them affordable and make politicians work within affordable levels, i.e. control the tax take on the ordinary working citizen.

The Party hasn't got a name yet, but as the second member, it could be your honour to pick one.

ok, i choose,

GASH (Great Action Starts Here) Party

but informally it will be called the SPC (some prefer cock) :biggrin1:

I feel the same way here too. I pay $850 a month for my one bedroom apartment. Everyone I talk to say I'm lucky. $850 rent isn't bad but it takes 42% of my monthly income. I can't even pay down my Visa even though I do pay just a little bit above the minimum. I can't even contribute towards any kind of savings. I don't even subscribe to cable or the internet. I steal wireless. I don't even subscribe to newspapers or magazines.

I would be able to pay down my Visa and have some luxury if I had a boyfriend who would help split the cost of rent and bills. But I'm not about to go out and get a boyfriend just for that reason. Not especially right now.

I am single too, i don't think governments honestly care about working class 'individuals'. All governments ever seem to want to do is help 'families' or help the middle class or help the elderly. You are really pretty much screwed if your single and on a low income. I have less than $40 in my savings account after 8 years of working full time and i've got $2000 of debt. Its disgraceful imo.

A room mate would cut your costs in half.

Yea, i know and its a good idea but...

i've had a flatmate before and he was my best mate which was great but it was somehow awkward cos i'm gay and he was straight and i just did'nt feel like i could relax. Now i have been living alone for the last six or seven years and am happy not having to be considerate of anyone else. I'd only really want to live with a significant other if i was gonna share again.

It should be illegal for landlords to charge as much as they do. They get rich off those poorer than they.:frown1: They just can't be rich -- they have to really rich.

I reckon the sole reason for high rent is to keep the poor just that, poor, this way we are pretty much powerless to escape from drudgery and enables the government to keep us under its power.

The time to rebel is now my friends!!!! hahaha, but first i have to go and pay my council tax

Try $60,000 in debt. $20,000 for Visa and $40,000 for student loans. The government just give you enough for school but barely enough to cover the costs of living. I happen to live in Alberta and the last 5 years, Alberta was at the height of an oil boom, so everything was very expensive.

I have thought about getting a roomie but that's kind of hard to do in a one bedroom apartment and moving into another apartment with roomies is not an option when I already have a full apartment of furnishings and such.

Don't assume that the "middle class" are necessarily in any better shape, Mitch. I know plenty of people who earn what you would say is a middle class income (and it should be) in the UK and don't have two cents to rub together.

Also, don't assume that all landlords are rich bastards. Rent, outside the really fashionable places and to some extent even threre, is based upon yield. If a landlord has paid a lot for a property during the recent silly boom, they need a high rent to get a worhwhile or effective return on their investment. Of course those landlords who have property that owes them nothing are laughing.

Our economy is very much a two contributor to single household model. It's all rather depressing.

Or more exactly i'm sick of the cost of rent, this one bill alone eats up 40+% of my earnings after tax and national insurance has been paid and for what?
It can not seriously cost so much to maintain an inanimate object especially as we pay the utility costs and we pay the redecoration costs. If it was made of mud and kept needing to be rebuilt i could understand but its a joke, seriously. I can't afford to buy broken household items without having to take out a loan, i can't afford to contribute to a savings account. I'm working more for the government than i am for myself, i'd be better looked after if i was in prison, its a joke. How are we going to change the status quo where governments are here to do what is socially responsible on our behalf instead of revelling in power. Rent should be abolished!!!! GRRRR!!!! I don't even care how ludicrous anyone else may think it is, the world sucks eggs (unless of course you don't have financial worries in which case where's the problem? right, i bet)

Rant over!

Hello bro !I agree with you absolutely. If you want I can help you with payments.Invite me there we can live together.I will pay 50% of your rent.

No 1. I wondered when you'd next appear on my thread for no good, it's been longer than expected, i guess you had a lie-in under that bridge.
No 2. The system does not work the same for everybody, it is suffered by everybody, only the wealthy can sleep well in its web.
No 3. Bother to read more than the title post and you'd see some actual agreement and or sympathy.
No 4. My threads are not all self-pitying, sometimes i pity your mother.

You really know how to cheer a mitchymo up, you tell me first you get free rent and then you have a b/f so now i'm not just poor, i'm out of luck too! :frown1::biggrin1:

lol, but i recently have barely seen him, due to his busy schedule traveling the globe, I seriously never thought that investment bankers had to go on so many job-excursions.
