Even beyond the fact that they offer these positions to their unqualified friends, in the USA IT IS CLEARLY ILLEGAL TO AWARD SUCH POSITIONS IN RETURN FOR POLITICAL FAVORS. IT IS SPECIFICALLY AGAINST FEDERAL LAW.

I was trying to make this point earlier, albeit in more general terms of principle but got sandbagged.

A friend was denied entry to the US, he had all the right papers, plenty of funds, even a letter of invitation. His only 'crime' it appeared was to be Zambian. Same thing to a friends fiance, she was denied entry to the UK on highly dubious grounds, it's not like she was a refugee she's an MD in South Africa!

Neither of these ever got anywhere near the judiciary, they were both put on flights to the point of origin. But if they had I'd like think they would have received a fair, impartial and non political hearing.

It happens in the UK everyday too of course, and no doubt all over the world which is why I was trying to be more general in suggesting that seeding a Judiciary with those likely to further an administration's political agenda rather than the law and thus, perhaps override the process is dangerous.

I know it happens but still, it shouldn't go unchallenged.

Yes, and when has the current administration shown any proclivity to following the rules? They count on our collective American stupidity to enable their violations of civil, federal and constitutional law. UGH.

Yes, actually I should have also said alleged. I don't know if any cases were proven in court. I'll see if I can find out.

Can't find any convictions but several have been referred for proscution. I did find these which are enlightening. The video clips are not very good quality though.

Revealed: 'sex-for-asylum' scandal at immigration HQ | Special Reports | Guardian Unlimited Politics

There's a reference in Hansard when the Home Secretary was asked about Duwate and states that he was suspended and then dismissed in June 2006.

Also this: The Sun Online - News: Asylum crook gets the axe
Though just how much crediblity to afford a Sun undercover reporter I don't know. Given that the link to the shock expose video actually shows a spot about the Reading festival. possibly not much.

Reid also stated "We have got around 250 under investigation at the moment. Thirty people have been disciplined and 20 referred to prosecution.”

But, the real irony is that Duwate was an "illegal" himself I'm just watching the Home Office slowly implode.

Right, D20, this is one of my points; see my comments below...

They count even more heavily on us detractors being beaten down by their supporters saying "well, everyone else has done it. We know it's against the law, but we do it anyway because the (democrats)(republicans) did it before we did. That excuses everything."

DOUBLE UGH!!!

That seemed to be Uncut's position and as result I think I was a bit rude to him but I feel the same as you about such things.
