These scans and patdowns are all just security theater. A determined terrorist will get something on a plane if they want to. A lazy terrorist will just detonate something in the usually huge crowd of people all crammed together waiting to get through security. Same effect.

Myself, I'm wearing a kilt next trip thru, not taking my PA out, and requesting a pat down.

with all this pissing and moaning they STILL do NOT scan the stuff that goes under the plane.... Most cleaning personnel work 2-3 jobs, so getting a uniform and 'pre-loading' something on a plane is not all that complex either...

Sorry but if 'bad people' REALLY wanted to do these type of actions.... is some 9$/hour bored person really going to hinder ALL of it from some determined loon?

As to the "DON"T SCAN ME' types...please... grow a pair, put on your big boy underoos and shut up (or as someone said, Greyhound.com | Home)... you are only slowing down (and pissing off) the folks who just want to get on and off the plane.

I value my privacy. And now that they're literally going inside the clothing and frisking toddlers who are upset about their teddy bears, it's too much. I won't be quiet about it. It's a violation of my rights as a citizen of this country.

But, think what you like. I am afterall one of those 'crazy, uneducated, back-woods tea partiers' who helped the Republicans win back the house, and I tried my best to get the Senate back too.

I hear this bullshit from whiny pussies like JOHN TYNER and I have to wonder what the people who paid with their lives in the 3 planes on 9/11 would say about this jerk . NO security measure is too extreme if it saves your life!
I am certain the victims of 9/11 who crashed into the Twin towers and the field in PA. would be happy to endure a groping to still be with their families !

~HH~

YOu have no fucking idea what those people would say, so why speculate? Personally, I'd rather take the risk that lose my rights as an American. Cops can't search someone on the street unless they have probable cause, and the TSA shouldn't be allowed to frisk people or use backscatter without probable cause. It's an insult to all of us, including all of the service men and women who have died to protect our rights.

I disagree with nearly everything the Tea Party says and stands for, but I'm with you on the pat-downs. No TSA agent is sticking his hands down my pants period. It has nothing to do with modesty and everything to do with civil rights.

Whatever it takes to enhance security and frankly if someone gets a thrill out of overdoing the pat down so it is more like a grope what the hell go at it.
Sorry but it would take a bit more than that to offend me as a guy.

I think the scanners are the best way to go for all people simply because some people do not like to be touched by strangers and it can be very stressful. The person patting you has probably patted a few hundred people before you.

"Whatever it takes" is the way to get all of our rights taken away. It is well known that a bomber in Saudi Arabia hid the bomb in his rectum. Are you alright with someone feeling inside your body cavities as a condition of flying? Maybe you are, but I absolutely am not. This is Bush-era behavior and if Obama doesn't nip it in the bud, the few of us still considering voting for him in 2012 will stop considering it.

I just saw a news article on TSA's new pat down procedure. Apparently quite a few passengers and pilots are disturbed with the procedure and he potential grouping that has or might occur. I am wondering if anyone has any first hand TSA experience with this new procedure?
I have, and it's not a pat-down at all. It's a full-body custody search. If you were to attempt it on someone, you'd be arrested for sexual assault.

What an incredibly moronic remark. First off, the procedure in question doesn't save anyone's life. This is Stasi security theater and nothing more...a reactionary attempt by the government to appear to be doing something useful to distract from the reality of the fact that there isn't any way to stop someone who is determined enough from wreaking mass havoc.

Hundreds of millions of dollars in facilities, equipment, and man-hours wasted putting on a show to address a "problem" that's affected a few thousand people in total...yet we're still allowed to pilot two tons of fast-moving steel over the roadways, even though it kills and maims tens of thousands of people every single year?

The whole business is a fucking charade at this point. I'm not submitting my body to a dose of ionizing radiation from any active scanners, and unless I've done something to warrant suspicion of criminal activity, I'm not inclined to allow any agent of the government put their hands on my person for any reason.

If the frisk is properly done, any contact with your genitals should be a second or less. A grope (see video listed above!) should be reported. These airport security measures cost billions, and they're one step behind the professional terrorists, but they will catch the inept amateurs. Some is just window-dressing to make us feel safer, but it's better than doing nothing.

They tell us that the radiation from a full-body scan is negligible, but if you travel a lot it can add up. And all machines malfunction at some point. I'd prefer the manual pat-down. If any guy gets a thrill from what I've got, he really has a problem!

I agree with pdick. This is security theatre. politicians want to be seen doing sonething.

In terms of the porn X-ray, I wouldn't mind so much if I could get a full resolution copy of my image. Next time you pass through, you arrange your penis to look more impressive and get a secon image and do this until you know the proper placement of penis to get the best image.

The thing about those scanners is that if they take 30 seconds per passenger, they are going to need a hell of a lot of those scanners (and an equal number of peeps looking at the images behind the scenes) to process passengers in a timely fashion.

In terms of the pat down, I think that passengers should have a choice between ugly male, cute male in a speedo, ugly female and bikini clad female supermodel.

At the end of the day however, passengers should just do like they have done in the past, and put all metal objects in a tray and if they can walk trhough the metal detector without ringing it, they shouldn't get a pat down.

You know those gag buzzers/vibrators you put in your hand before you shake hands with someone ?

Perhaps they need to design one for the penis. When the TSA agent puts hands on your penis, it triggers the vibrator and the agent will feel it, and will hear you say "oh yeah, right there ! oh yeah !

And if the gizmo is very noisy, it will be heard by everyone around you and the TSA agent will be truly embarassed !!!!!

I cannot blame the government for trying to find options to make it safer for us to travel. Pat downs are SOP at football games also. It won't catch everyone, but at least it is a practice that the public is aware of and may stop someone from thinking they can carry a bomb on their body.

Now see..this is what I don't get. I thought you Republicans were "pro-security". "Freedom isn't free", "You're either with us or against us", "Never forget 9/11", "Democrats are soft on national security"...WTF? Here is the government doing what they are supposed to do - protect us - and the Republicans and FOX News are all up in arms screaming about invasion of privacy!?!? As usual - all they do is complain, complain, complain, fearmonger, confuse, exaggerate - and OFFER NO ALTERNATIVES!!!!!!!!

I say - pat me down, x-ray my ass, do whatever you need to do - I don't care - just get me on my flight and in the air on time. All you wussies better not ever travel to Israel or any other country that takes it's air travel, security, and citizens seriously. If you don't want to be patted down - then walk, ortake the train, or ride the bus - but shut the hell up.

... the people who paid with their lives in the 3 planes on 9/11... NO security measure is too extreme if it saves your life!
I am certain the victims of 9/11 who crashed into the Twin towers and the field in PA. would be happy to endure a groping to still be with their families !

I dont have an opinion about the new scanners or
pat down procedures in the US yet;
havent looked into it in sufficient details.

However, thinking these "enhanced" security mesures could
have prevented actions like those on 9/11 is erroneous.
The methods used by the hijackers that day would have successfully
circumvented these new security mesures.

They did not carry any explosives, they did not carry any firearms,
they did not even carry much in the way of knives...
they got onboard with very small, easily concealable,
razor sharp, box cutter blades.

These new mesures in place now are not adressing
the kind of threat faced on 9/11. If they get as far
as the TSA check points, a similar attack would
very likely be successful today.

Maybe it is justified, maybe it isn't... as I said, I dont know yet
but the comparative with 9/11, in this case, is not appropriate.

I guess I'm not going to fly anytime soon unless a Colt model is going to do my "pat down". I'm not going to expose myself to the scanner simply because I don't care to be exposed to the radiation. Don't care how minimal it is.
The man who told the TSA agent that if he "touched his junk" he would have him arrested gets my vote. Now he faces an 11K fine? Give me a break.
If for some reason I'm forced to fly I will refuse the scan and will strip naked and let them look all they want but if they want to touch, it's going to cost.
This is getting way out of control and someone needs to stand up rather than be violated. I guess whent the airlines' bottom line is affected things will get changed or modified. Maybe the answer is to fly naked and force everyone to wear blindfolds. Better yet, all male flights and all female flights...kids must fly with their Moms.
