I fly frequently, I post over 200,000 miles a year on OneWorld Alliance airlines (AA, BA, Cathay Pacific). It is very easy to avoid the new pat down procedures, go through the full body scan! Passengers that do not want to go through the full body scanners are required to do the extensive pat down. If you don't like it drive, or take a train, bus, or ship. But please quit whining about your civil rights being violated by TSA.
Flying commercial aircraft is not a right, it is a privilege.
As a passenger on a commercial flight I do have the expectation that the carrier and government has done everything they can to make it a safe flight. I remember flying the months after 9/11, full luggage searches and multiple pat downs were common around the world. I use to take an AA 777 home to the US frequently. Getting into the airport required tight security, and then before we boarded they checked every passengers carry-on luggage by emptying it out on a table. Then they patted down every passenger right as they enter the jet way. Every time we collected our luggage mine, and everyone else I knew on the flight had their checked luggage tagged as being searched before loading by security.
This is different and dangerous world, yes it would be nice it these security measures were not needed, but they are. I am glad they now take this seriously, pre 9/11 the security screeners in large US cities where fast food rejects. Many screeners were making minimum wage, hell McDonalds in many cities pays more than minimum wage. I am glad to see that the TSA has professionalized this function in our airports.
If I thought it would get me through airport security any faster I would be willing to go through naked.
I propose 3 lines for TSA security checks.
- Express lane where seasoned travelers go through the lane naked.
- Full body scanner lane for the modest seasoned traveler.
- Third lane would be for people that refuse the body scanner, it would be a line to board a Greyhound Bus. Those passengers can sing the Greyhound song "Its got to be the going not the getting their that's good!" all the way on there during the stinky 30 hour bus ride.
