    must not gloat .... because my friend is staying with us for three months and he is British ............but ............ we are going to make him eat 4th of July BBQ with his fingers

    watching him eat with a knife and fork, never setting one down is so cute

    Just a point of order here...Why do you say the '4th of July' when on most other things, for some inexplicable reason, you put the month before the date?? :confused:

    There is an assumption that America is an Anglo-Saxon culture, yet while the inhabitants speak a sort of English their culture, even though it is no longer numerically European, is very much set in the German mould. So we shouldn't really make such a big deal out of the colonies gaining independence from Great Britain. George III treated his colonial subjects as he treated his large brood of children: with arrogant contempt. When his Hessian mercenaries were beaten by the colonial militias we Brits should have siezed the moment and rid ourselves of those pernicious Hanovarians too. Happy Indepence Day.

    I have a really old sweater that I bought in London a zillion years ago that still has a tag inside that says *Made In England* maybe I'll wear that to the fireworks party on Sunday!
