Whenever I think of this song, my mind goes to the French version sung by the
incomparable Dalida. Below are the lyrics with my translations (which, in some spots may convey the feeling more than the actual words used).
It should also be noted that the original Planet of the Apes was a dystopian vision of the future written by a Frenchman: they have a strong streak of ambiguity when it comes to "progress".
