In this thread, starinvestor twists the fact that there was some trash left on the Capitol Mall after Tuesday's inauguration into an indictment of the entire progressive environmental agenda. What neither starinvestor, nor any of the other usual suspects, have fairly acknowledged is the huge volunteer effort on the part of progressives to clean up the mall: The carpet on which Barack Obama was sworn in? Recycled. The manure from the horses? Sold to local farms. The volunteer group Trust for the National Mall donated 12,000 translucent bags for volunteers to use while cleaning up. (The Secret Service specified that the bags had to be see-through as a security precaution.) (source for the above three items) The number of volunteers cleaning up the mall? "Several hundred". (source) More than half of the trash was removed in the first twelve hours. Plans are already underway to re-sod the National Mall within the 'next few days'. (source for the previous two items) Being green doesn't require that one produces zero waste; it requires responsible management of the waste that is produced. We are, indeed, seeing that responsible management happening.
