What neither starinvestor, nor any of the other usual suspects, have fairly acknowledged is the huge volunteer effort on the part of progressives to clean up the mall:
- The carpet on which Barack Obama was sworn in? Recycled.
- The manure from the horses? Sold to local farms.
- The volunteer group Trust for the National Mall donated 12,000 translucent bags for volunteers to use while cleaning up. (The Secret Service specified that the bags had to be see-through as a security precaution.) (source for the above three items)
- The number of volunteers cleaning up the mall? "Several hundred". (source)
- More than half of the trash was removed in the first twelve hours.
- Plans are already underway to re-sod the National Mall within the 'next few days'. (source for the previous two items)
