Sounds like you may have torn your "Tunica Albuginia", an inner membrane surrounding the "Corpus Cavernosum" (the collumn of blood channels in the shaft), in which case you have suffered what we call a "fractured penis".

The "Tunica" tears, and then blood escapes and causes a lump in the penis along the corpus cavernosum, and this lump may calcify and scar permanently. If this happens, your penis could then develop a serious twist or curve, and it could become difficult to have sex with it. Some can even angle at 90 degrees!

Not trying to scare you, but don't wait too long as it can be fixed sometimes if it is caught early before scarring sets in, and you may minimize the problem.

It could also be a simple burst blood vessel (like a bruise) and it may disappear on its own, but I wouldn't wait... I'd get it checked out by a professional urgently.

i finally got up the nerve to see a doctor. i don't know if i got good advice because there was no mri, just a "hmm... here are some anti-inflammatories and see me in a week".

i've had a tearing injury once before, and bruising, but nothing like this.
