I had severe insomnia a couple of years ago. After not closing my eyes for a week, I went to a Dr. She sent me to a sleep specialist. He tried 7 or 8 different types of meds on me. Antidepressants, nervines, etc. Nothing helped at all and I gained 30 lbs in a short time. He then put me in a sleep study. That was expensive BS. The only thing learned from it was that I did not sleep. Everything else was normal. Then came the hormone tests etc. Nothing. The answer was "we don't know why you are not sleeping nor do we have anything to help you to sleep, Sorry". My Dr. sent me to a different Dr. with the same results.
I don't know what has changed but suddenly I started sleeping just fine. After 3 years of hardly any sleep.

The medical merry-go-round failed me but might help you.

I did the sleep study thing a few years ago (when I was working) but really slept for about 45 minutes.

I've been trying to recondition myself and get back onto a regular schedule and on those nights I do sleep it sure feels good! My mom had told me that when she was about my age she fell into a pattern like this and when I was a baby she had to wake me up to feed me since I slept all the time.

Maybe I exhausted all of my sleep then and now I'm paying for it!
