Interracial couple denied marriage license in La. - Yahoo! News

    Parts of the article...

"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way,"

He would hate me and MY hubby!!!

He came to the conclusion that most of black society does not readily accept offspring of such relationships, and neither does white society, he said.
Funny my BLACK as HELL family is just happy that I found I guy that I loved enough to marry!

"I try to treat everyone equally," he said.

Then MARRY different race COUPLES YOU DIRT BAG!!!!!!!!!

If he has jurisdiction over marriage licenses, I'm guessing this is a justice of the peace...which the article confirms.

JP's are elected positions, so this guy represents the mentality of the voters in the area. Go figure.

In any case, he has no business ruling from the bench if he demonstrates such a poor understanding of jurisprudence. By a unanimous ruling on Loving v. Virginia, the SCOTUS very clearly abolished the notion that anti-miscegenation has any legal validity:

I find it incredible that he is allowed to get away with that. This is in the USA in 2009!!! He should be made an example of and removed from any position of authority.

It is amazing that there's still people out there who feel that way about interracial couples. So what if they have mixed-race babies? Why is that even a problem. Your president is mixed race...

WHAT THE COLOSSAL FUCK IS WRONG WITH THIS GODDAMN PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A STATE????

Take your backward racist Jim Crow bullshit and get the fuck out of our country. I have HAD it with the toothless wonders from this shithole who make Jerry Springer's couples look like Jacques Derrida debating Stephen Hawking.

EITHER FOLLOW THE CONSTITUTION OF THIS COUNTRY OR FOUND YOUR OWN THIRD WORLD BULLSHIT STATE.

Obama should do what Eisenhower did and move in the army to enforce the rule of law. There should be no tolerance for this. PERIOD.

Absolutely astonishing. What's next? Is this fool going to start sectioning off the seats in his office with "whites" and "colored" signs? What an absolute idiot!

Can't wait to see how this one gets played up in the media.

Because unless you've lived or visited this country extensively you will not understand that the US is a bifurcated country in culture, economics, religion, race, and society. What you see in our media is exclusively the product of the prosperous, liberal, educated, and industrialized coasts and the various islands of such culture elsewhere in the country. You do not see the crazy aunt we keep locked in the basement unless you go to visit her yourself and then, oh man, will you have an eye-opener that will make you marvel at how this country even manages to function with such ridiculous disparities at every level of society.

Please don't generalize an entire group of people. For someone whose obviously got a nice head on his shoulders, you can be pretty contemptuous.

I was going to post. Then I saw this quote. I think that pretty much sums it up.

    Second Quote from Jason:

"Because unless you've lived or visited this country extensively you will not understand that the US is a bifurcated country in culture, economics, religion, race, and society. What you see in our media is exclusively the product of the prosperous, liberal, educated, and industrialized coasts and the various islands of such culture elsewhere in the country. Jason, you really show your discernment, wisdom and knowledge in this second post. Our nation is still young. Some people have a mentality that when I was growing up we called "red necks." This has nothing to do with race or ethnic background. It is a mentality. According to the standards of Europe, America still has a lot of backward people who it is a stretch to say they are civilized.

In America we have freedom of thought. We don't have freedom of action when it affects other people. My freedom stops where your freedom begins. While I strongly disagree with the justice of the peace, he is free to believe what he believes. He is even free to say in public what he believes. This jackass doesn't have the freedom to determine who marries whom in the state of Louisiana or anywhere else in the USA. If the man's conscience doesn't allow him to issue license for a mixed marriage, then he should resign immediately.

It can't be more simple than that.

The Justice Department and Attorney General of the United States should immediately start an investigation into this matter. If the state of Louisiana refuses to remove this turd from office, I'm sure there are legal and financial sanctions that can be carried out against the state of Louisana by the United States government.

Wowwww... now this is what I never thought I would ever read... And the biggest irony, or more appropriately hypocrisy, is that he said "I try to treat everyone equally".... I wonder if the investigates each marriage to find out if those marriages will last or not.. like gold diggers or black widows... hahaha...

Damn right but time and time again, shit comes straight out of Louisiana (like trying to ban the public display of underwear without checking with SCOTUS rulings on the subject) and a host of other similar states. This IDIOT is an elected official. I blame the electorate of his town for putting such a moron in office to begin with. This is the same state of the ridiculous Bobby Jindal (creationist, opponent of gay marriage, copays for Medicaid, advocate of chemical castration, and a host of other barbaric and backward practices).

Anyone with any sense who hasn't left Louisiana deserves to be condemned to it. If I NEVER set foot there I won't lose any sleep over it and I'm sure the redneck halfwits who inhabit the state will be just as happy that I don't.

And by the way, where are the governor's comments on this issue? Where are the rebukes from other elected officials? The silence is as deafening as it is damning.
