A straight friend said to me that intimacy between two straight men can potentially cause straight men to question their sexual orientation. I don't know if I believe this. I also wonder why this straight friend said this to me as I have come out to him and we are close. He is a work colleague.

How do you define “intimacy“ in this context?

The deepest of emotional sharing
It seems that he’s arguing that verbal and emotional intimacy can lead to physical intimacy. I don’t think there is a direct cause and effect in a vacuum, however as emotional intimacy builds trust, a guy that is already curious about same-sex play would probably be more open to experimenting with guy with whom he’s already emotionally intimate.

I think that he is straight. So straight that he can acknowledge explicitly that most guys do question their sexuality when they have established s deep emotional bond. He didn't say that guys act on it but he said that it's normal. Why do you think he's not straight?

I think the nature of truly straight men's intimacy with one another does not allow for a sexual component, and that the very notion is projection of fantasy from women and gay men. I think it's a fair bet that if such intimacy spawns such confusion that there is a bit of underlying homo or bisexuality at play, whether they're actively aware of it or not.

I thought that once. But I do agree with him that for some straight men who never experienced proper emotional intimacy it can throw them into a confusion over their sexuality. They may never act on it.

If so I think it similar to underage individuals conflating attention from adults as sexual interest...in that if gay and bisexual men are even mildly aware of this supposed phenomenon, then ruminating upon it, or partaking of it, it's the equivalent of a statutory offense.
I think it's similar to recognizing how women without strong male figures in their lives are prone to Stockholm Syndrome, or falling for their captors, so let's as straight men discuss how duress and loss of autonomy might compel women to offer sexual access to men she otherwise wouldn't.

Traditionally many men were like the mountains. Strong, silent and emotionally reserved.
Guys who share / express their feelings may come to inner reflect this as a sign of weakness -- non traditional macho - male behavior. Yes it sounds silly; but it does not make one homosexual
