Is it possible to have a normal non-sexual friendship between a gay and a straight guy?

I have never had a gay friend but wouldn't be aginst the idea. I was wondering how it would work from both viewpoints. What are the limits and problems.

Isn't there always the risk of the gay guy falling in love with his straight friend and changing their relationship?

Can the gay guy only have hetero friends with whom he is not attracted?

Can a straight man have a normal friendship with a woman?

Think about it that way and I think you'll have your answer.

    You've just rocked my world.

Never has a question been answered so absolutely and profoundly in two sentences on this forum. I think I love you.

I second Stronzo's reply, good answer!

It seems to be difficult then, judging by my own experience with platonic lady friends.
I choose them carefully, either I don't find them very attractive or they have lots of single friends.
When they start boring me about their boyfriend troubles, I'd just love to show them my BIG solution to their problems.

I have many straight friends ... more straight than gay, by a long shot, reflecting the simple fact that there are more straight people in the world.

It has happened once or twice (or thrice ...) that I've found myself attracted, but that's easy to bottle up -- easy to convert to an enhancement of non-sexual feeling, actually. (Sublimation?)

A couple times straight friends have suggested that they sensed (correctly) that I was attracted, but they obviously didn't mind, and we went on quite normally. And soon my feelings settled down.

In one case, it was obvious that my basically quite straight friend (though I was never entirely sure) very much enjoyed the attraction. (He would tell you that he was a cheerful narcissist.)

For me, it's no great problem. Been a lot of fun at times. And no threat to anyone.

There's one in Chamonix, and two in the Aix-en-provence area. (Rumours of one in Marseille, too.)

One you say NO to sex, unequivocally, your friendship can blossom.

I have more straight frinends than gay ones. In fact, if anyone would like a gay platonic friend, let me know. (Niceone, you're already OK)

Don't you get frustrated? Or think about having sex with him?

If I ever have a gay friend he'd better be okay with hugs.

    Manly hugs, of course.

I guess I'm going to have to assume you're serious. All gay guys grow up with straight friends--definitely no problem there. Most gay guys I know have plenty of very close straight guy friends even now. About half of my closest friends are straight. I have never heard of anybody imagining that gay guys have problems being friends with straight guys. That would mean they don't know how to navigate living in a straight world.

So the question seems a little wierd. I suppose it is possible in theory that you don't have any gay friends. Just hard to imagine, if you live on the earth.

every cool straight man should have a gay friend. it impresses women. it shows yer open minded and secure about your sexuality. and it gives us someone to take to a football game etc should the desire arise.

and we'll tell you when your clothes are not working.

non homophobic straight men rock.
