implicit in your post is the admission, and now the shift to "relevance"

I "admit" nothing. Perhaps the cheap rum you drink at night is fooling your eyesight or scrambling your putrid little brain? Also, I've been on record for years on this site talking about how irrelevant someone's religious background is when it comes to running this country. Bigots like you try to make it a debatable issue, and get mad when people like me call you out for your ignorance.

next question would be why did he try to hide it for so long, if not "relevant"?

Actually, the second, third & fourth questions are the following:
2. When did you get out of rehab?
3. When are you going back since the first treatment didn't work?
4. When are you going to ever STFU or get banned?

the consequence and relevance to American diplomacy and security?

We'll be a lot safer once people like you are silenced. Seriously.

Yes dismantle the Homeland Security Dept. It's a waste of money. If the employees cannot be re-assigned, then fire them. Government jobs are no more sacrosanct than private sector jobs.

While you're at it, take apart the DEA as well.

Hopefully, Marijuana will be legalized and controlled much like Alcohol and there will be no justification for the DEA anymore. It would solve a prison over population and courts clogged by pot related crimes.

Someone's skipped a dose or two.
Or had one too many.

I have always hated that name, "Homeland Security". It's got a creepy, imperialistic, Orwellian ring to it and phrase "the Homeland" was never a part of the American vernacular at all. I never heard it before 2002. The name is something Richard Nixon would have dreamed up.

It's because the Bush team made up the term "Homeland Security". It used to be called the Department of Civil Defense.

The DOHS was redundant in function from the start, created to make it look like "W" was responding to terrorism in a big way. They've been much more effective at eroding privacy and civil rights than at having an effect on terrorism. Also, have you ever heard an agency name that evoked the Third Reich aesthetic to that degree?

The best antidote to terrorism would be for the U.S. to stop funding and otherwise propping up any dictator, military coup, strongman or warlord who serves their temporary interests. Nobody is more dangerous to our interests than someone who has lost his family, livelihood and home in a way that he has every reason to trace to the actions of the U.S. government. Such a person may feel that they have nothing to lose by sacrificing themselves to revenge.

That's been one of my issues as well. "Homeland" sounds like the something from the USSR. It's appeal to people just shows that the USA has its own problem with lug nuts.

And Homeland Security, like the Defense Department, DEA, FBI, CIA, etc. are big government programs that elude criticism from Tea Partiers and Red State types by giving out huge numbers of jobs to those constituencies. The the Tea Party will never cut the deficit since that's where the fat is at and that is where many of their government jobs are at well.

What did it take two post to derail the subject.............lol Obama bad teabagger good. I doubt that homeland security is going anywhere soon. I always thought once you gave them all those powers they were never going to give them up without a fight. One more thing you can thank Carl Rove and Darth Vader for.

I think that during the dismantling of the Department, it might be helpful to change its ominous name to the "Department of Redundancy Department".

We haven't taken a dent out of terrorism yet, and I think disbanding Homeland Security isn't a good idea. They may be extreme in their efforts to go after them, but the results are valid and cannot be discounted.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who dislikes the name "Homeland" Security. It's pretty cheesy.

I think "Homeland" was selected because "Fatherland" had already been used once

When the DHS was dreamed up, it was supposed to eliminate redundancies, not compound them.

And, BTW, Obama is still a Muslim.

I hope he is a nuclear armed jihadist. And I hope during the next State of the Union he presses the little button to set off his narco-radiated islamofascist mushroom cloud suicide vest built from Nigerian yellow cake and saddam's in-fact aluminum tubes placed south, east west and north somewhat.

That is one State of the Union speech whose hot air I would actually enjoy to see for once.
