Since I took over LPSG this area of the site is one area I've stayed completely away from. I felt it was important I focus my attention and time on the core areas of LPSG. Many of you have come to me asking about this section and I've replied to most of you I considered the politics section of LPSG to be an "Enter at your own Risk" section of the site. Regardless of political affiliation, I told everyone that. I did not show bias or preference to anyone.

The world as we know it is as divided as I've ever seen it. That sucks. It's a shame and never good for society when we as humans can get so heated and angry at each other that we fail to actually see reality and the truth. As we approach the 2020 US Election I think it is obvious the political tension is going to only get worse MUCH MUCH WORSE.

I am currently seriously considering shutting down the political forum and banning any political talk from the site. I hate seeing the vicious arguments and the hatred on display. I don't think it is conducive to us building LPSG into an inclusive and caring community.

If any of you have any opinions for or against this move now would be the time to voice them. Thank you.

Mr. LPSG

We do not unite ourselves by halting conversation - it’s a matter of finding a way to have respectful discussion on tricky issues. The problem is not with the content, but with the behavior of the participants.
Agreed which is why I don't know what else can be done. I've witnessed the exact same scenario play out in private conversations in real life. We are so divided at the moment as a society we can't even have respectful discussions. Mainly (imo) because we can't even agree on what is reality and what isn't.

If @Klingsor isn't posting, this place isn't as fun for me. This is the only place I see him and a few others I really enjoy and appreciate.

Edit: if you ban political speech that's just one more thing for the mods to worry about when there are more important things to concern them with in my opinion. They have a hard enough time keeping up with everything else.

I don't like the celebrities/influencers sections. I'm not trying to get them removed from the site

Ban all political talks? No. That would be incredibly unproductive.
Ban flat out abusive language? Sure. Abusive language is also unproductive.

Yes, people are going to be offended by political views, and conversations can get heated, with incendiary material being placed on the table. And thats perfectly ok.

I hope, and trust, that the moderation team here would maintain common sense when using the ban hammer though. Im sure you guys would be able to understand why someone calling someone else the n-word should be banned, while someone saying "build the wall" should not.

In the end, though, this forum belongs to the people who own this site, and not the people who happen to post on it. And I testify that I am a willing participant on it, and if the moderators make a judgement call that I dont agree with, that is their call, and I have the freedom to browse elsewhere.

I'm glad you guys are thoughtful enough to ask our opinions on the subject, and even implement our suggestions on occasion. But I also acknowledge your right to run your site the way you guys see fit ::thumbs up::

The problem of shutting down the political forum is that it will just show up on another forum and start polluting that.

When that happens, you will spend more time shutting down those individual threads than you would if they had their own place.

If you really want to do something constructive with it, enforce the TOS to keep the anger/bigotry down.

When people violate it, suspend then for ______ amount of time.

If they keep violating it, ban them.

You want to keep the peace?

Enforce the peace.

There is no denying the politics section is rough and tumble at times. I think the moderators do their best given the heat that builds up there at times. No one has to visit the politics section at all. There are numerous sections here that I avoid or have no interest in. There are a couple sections where my interest is amazed that some of the things I read exist - but I keep my opinion to myself because I don't have to read it and others enjoy it.

I have found the ignore feature works very well. I have put a few posters on ignore for short or long periods of time when I find that any interaction with them derails me or the thread. THAT is a massive plus to use. It allows people to post within the rules and it does not require anyone to have to shift though it.

I did not initially come here for the politics section at all. In fact I ventured in relatively late compared to how much time I spend there now. It was the deciding feature for me to join the site as a paid member. I still use other parts of the site, but not as much and if the section closes I likely will reconsider my membership going forward. Nothing is carved in stone, I really am impressed by how hard Mr. LPSG has worked to upgrade the site and respect that he needs to decide what is in the long term best interest of the site.

The problem isn't the people who don't like this section. The problem is the people who like this section but don't like their point of view being challenged. That is the problem.

If you want respectful discussion. Make respectful discussion. Might get in trouble for this but if you want this section to run better here's some ideas. Outlaw memes. Or at the very least remove them as they are posted and say they aren't welcome. Outlaw insults. If people can't make personal insults they'll leave the section. Since that's all a lot of them are here for anyway. When someone says something that is a fact, mark it. When someone says something that isn't a fact, mark that too. If someone says something that's only half a fact. Mark that too. Or something to that effect.

Our country isn't actually divided. We all agree on many of the basics. It's just that a lot of people know they can lie about something and get away with it. If though they can't lie about something and get away with it they'll leave the section.

Fact checking might not seem like the best of ideas. might not seem like it helps but that's because we don't really do so regarding politics in general.

If people can't personally insult each other, can't post memes, can't lie about events in history, can't lie about a politician and so on the section will get more respectful. Simply because the people who do these things will know they don't have any influence here.

When one or more people start to do a thing that drags down discussion in this area and aren't stopped or slowed down. All of the area has to deal with it. Which makes it seem like it's a no go zone. We aren't divided. There's just people who like to discuss topics in good faith...and those who know their arguments can't stand on good faith.

Make it harder for those not arguing in good faith to gain influence and you'll fix your problem without having to throw out the baby and the bath water.

I think you should ban all mentions of onlyfans
Well, those onlyfans mentions brought in 3,000,000 users in the past month and politics brought in 3,000. One is far more in line with what the site is about than the other.

Not to mention I don't get complaints about those guys attacking each other but here Democrats and Republicans constantly call the other group unreasonable assholes or unreasonable cry babies.

I wish you could have been on LPSG before onlyfans existed, it was an entirely different place.

The only reason this has come up is that I am receiving complaints from users from this section of the site asking us to do something about it. If you guys are happy for this to continue to be an enter at your own risk shit show I'm ok with that. I'll point those who complain back to this thread.

I get that. I get it 100%. I know the onlyfans shit blew up about 6 months before I came into the picture and it changed a lot especially the makeup of the membership. I'm continuing to work on ways to focus on the non-onlyfans portion of lpsg membership and build that up.

I think it would benefit the site if you removed it. Reading the post above I do respect thoughts and opinions on open dialogue helping the division we are currently facing.
What Ive done in my personal and professional life is- want to discuss politics? Absolutely! Im always up for a healthy debate. However my rule is " no name calling", Ive found that with no bad language or insults its a pretty short conversation.
Perhaps you should update your TOS

Well yes that is mainly the problem. It took us a long time and money to get to this divided reality. It's not going to be an easy thing to fix.
Agreed. That is what is scary. Everybody is so concerned about being "right" they don't even listen to any differing opinions anymore.
