I find that worry doesn't do anything to solve a problem.

Oh, trust me. There's plenty of us who are doing more than just worry. We're preparing for battle on every front, political, legal, in the media and in the streets.

And it doesn't really matter if you care, or not. We'll still be fighting for you and your rights. If we hadn't been fighting for longer than you've been alive, you'd be looking at jail time -- or at least a good beatdown by your local police -- for daring to even admit you're 80% gay.

The alarmism of your elders is why you're more free today than somebody in your position 30 years ago. The fact that you don't recognize or appreciate that is sad, but people are still looking out for you, in case you ever wake up to reality.

Whether you like it or not, you are part of the LGBTQ community and these people do not have your best interest at heart. I'm going to guess you're quite a bit younger than me. I came of age in the late 70's/80's. Things were NOT good for Gay people. You should be thanking my generation. We organized and got shit done to make life better for the LGBTQ community. We have just finished 8 years of expansion of our rights. Trump and his cabinet want us to go backwards. But you don't seem to give a rat's ass.

Sorry to burst your bubble but what you "did" has zero impact on me. LGBT whatever's have no impact on my life so get off the high horse.

Do not lie to me. You aren't looking out for me otherwise you'd realize how little your efforts impact me. I'm just as free to today as I would have been back then. My rights would be pristine. As far as the world knows I'm a "straight white male" and I can prove it.

Sorry but my problems don't align with your phantoms. Try again.

You seem very misinformed. You are GAY. And entitled. Respect what your elders have done for you. It doesn't matter, we'll work for you right's too so you don't have to hide behind the mask of a "Straight white male" and be who you truly are, a GAY man. It's sad you feel the need to hide your true identity. "I'm a straight white male and I can prove it" I don't even know what that means. How do you "Prove" it? (said the 80% gay man)

If you are a "straight white male" whose problems don't align with the LGBT community, then you have no standing for judging those who are acting on their political survival while under threat.

One additional reality/history check: Industrialsize, WinesThe1945, and the thousands of others who have worked for LGBT equality didn't just struggle for political gain. They/we have worked and do work so that those who follow don't have to live closeted lifestyles, wrongfully being accused of mental illness, getting involved in "sham marriages" to convince society that you are normal, etc. Let's not forget that there struggles were occurring simultaneously as a generation of their gay peers, in particular, were dying of AIDS. I wonder how well you would have held up watching several of your friends die while "mainstream" society didn't give a damn.

The end of the movie "American Beauty" with Keven Spacey (1999) presents a dramatic glimpse of just how wonderful and protected life was for those closeted "straight white males". You may want to spend two minutes to watch and learn what closeted reality was like even when you were a child.

[Know your enemy]

From today's Boston Globe (newspaper - in operation since 1872) -
"Trump's Cabinet: A Who's Who of Homophobia"

So far, Trump’s transition team and choices for executive cabinet positions, include (a synopsis) :
  • Vice President-elect Mike Pence — the Indiana governor with a history of antigay positions and actions, including signing the draconian Religious Restoration Freedom Act in 2015
  • FRC’s Tony Perkins, who helped write the GOP platform, considered among the most anti-LGBT GOP platforms in history (and which promotes so-called “reparative therapy”)
  • Ken Blackwell, former Ohio secretary of state and FRC senior fellow, was named domestic policy chair of the Trump transition team. Blackwell has compared homosexuality to arson and kleptomania, and in an interview with me at the 2008 GOP convention. "“I believe homosexuality is a compulsion that can be contained, repressed, or changed. . . ."
  • Trump named as his education secretary nominee Michigan billionaire Betsy DeVos, whose family’s foundation has given millions of dollars to groups working against LGBT equality — including FRC
  • Trump’s choice for health and human services secretary is Georgia GOP congressman, Tom Price, who voted to ban marriage equality in the US Constitution and attacked the Obama administration’s recent guidelines on treatment of transgender students as “absurd.”
  • Trump’s choice for attorney general is staunchly anti-LGBT Alabama US senator Jeff Sessions, who has consistently had a score of zero from the Human Rights Campaign, and whose actions include a vote against the LGBT-inclusive hate crimes law that President Obama signed in 2009 and which the Justice Department is charged with implementing.
  • Trump’s pick for housing and urban development secretary is Ben Carson, who compared homosexuality to bestiality and incest.
  • Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, Trump’s choice for national security advisor, mocked transgender people serving openly in the military (the Defense Department lifted its ban this year)
  • Trump’s defense secretary choice, General James N. Mattis, has hinted that he opposed repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell,”
  • South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, chosen as ambassador to the UN, has spoken out strongly against marriage equality.
  • Kansas congressman Mike Pompeo, named by Trump as his CIA director nominee, supported a bill allowing the federal definition of marriage to be superseded by a state definition.
  • And Trump’s choice of chief of staff, Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus, oversaw the anti-LGBT platform hammered out at the 2016 party convention

I don't mind friends dying around me. Death happens, I get over it. I think you guys are just bitter that you can't shift yourself to meld with the situation. You have a very rigid sense of self.

I can't respect people I don't know or even care about (especially when they did nothing for me). A gay man isn't what I truly am, you foolish man. I can be what I need to be.

Who said I'm hiding. I can change to fill whatever, I don't have a rigid sense of identity to protect like everyone else. As I have fully stated before, you aren't working for me, just yourself. But it's fun to watch you guys struggle to "be who you are". It's cute.

I have a wait and see attitude about this incoming administration. To my Gay friends, I feel for you. You live during a time of uncertainty. But don't listen to the hype from the news outlets and social media. Do your own fact finding. I think Trump has bigger fish to fry. As far as the threat from morons, it's always been there. Keep your heads on a swivel, watch out for each other. Be ready to protect yourselves on the off chance some inbred shit bag wants to try something. Arm yourselves if need be. Kick the victim mentality to the curb. Have a plan. The same stuff I practiced growing up in South-Central Los Angeles. Fuck that turn the other cheek bullshit. Don't fuck with me and I'll won't fuck with you. My biggest problem I have with the left is their exploitation of the victim mentality. That shit produces a weak mindset and it leaves a community unprepared. Hate and Bigotry has always been the fabric of America. So this is nothing new. Don't act shocked, Don't act surprised. Don't get ready. Be ready.

Go about your lives, but be aware of your surroundings. Something you should be doing anyway. It's not living in fear. It's called being prepared. The so-called Alt-Right has been preparing all along. We peace loving individuals as a whole have not. Something to ponder.

Do you have anything constructive to offer? We've provided ample proof of harm with (1) the anti-LGBT policies of Trump officials, (2) no less than 12 Trump cabinet-level members who have a history of anti-LGBT political action, and 3) organizations which have spent millions Your bubble of narcissism ( ie having your head up your ass) is useless. It really is time to put up or shut up.

I try to stop the whole "chicken without a head syndrome", which you seem to keep going despite overreacting. You also seem to forget how this doesn't impact me at all so I say good luck to you because it's going to be fun from my view.

And besides, I have larger concerns on my mind besides the rights of a small percentage of the population.

Why don't we all relax. Our Governments 1st job is to protect its citizens, it amazes me how most of us still support a political party and administration that obviously didn't do they're job. Remember the 49 people from our community that went out to have some innocent fun and were murdered? We all want to believe the liberal left are there for us...maybe just our vote? Let's give this guy a chance...I already feel a little safer going out to my favorite gay hangout knowing somebody has my back, not just my vote... against a group who really believes we are an abomination...

If you believe that Donald Trump has the back of the LGBTQ community you are very naive. He has appointed the most ANTI LGBTQ Cabinet in history. Wake up.
