I am concerned for what is happening. However, there are also many people who will fight the Neo-Nazi White Supremecists and if necessary will cause chaos for a while. In the end, the Religious Rghtwingers will be seen as nothing more than the McCarthyites were seen in the 1950s as a bunch of power hungry fear mongers and kkkristianity will have even less power and influence than it has now.
Progress isn't inevitable nor irrevocable. It's a falacious thinking to look back to history and conclude that events could only happened how they happened and that our dark days were bound to pass. Sometimes it's quite the opposite that happens. See Afghanistan, per example: not even 50 years ago, they were accepting women in universities and public offices, now they are afraid of leaving their homes without covering their faces. We could almost say that sometimes history goes backwards, but that would be incorrect for considering that there's a normal direction, a natural tendency for progress, when in fact there isn't.
Trivial matters = civil rights.
Serious matters = obsessing about trying to convert to heterosexuality.

At least when it comes to the nuclear codes, my vague understanding is that there are some internal checks and balances. For example, the five DEFCON levels (1 being the most severe, 5 being the least severe) , describe states of security threats. Donald Trump could hypothetically say, "Let's nuke country X", but having escalated to Defcon 1 before the command, those officers responsible for the launch of nuclear warheads would have to request confirmation that a state of alarm exists. For example, it's rumored that in 1973, when President Nixon was under intense political scrutiny before his impeachment, he would get drunk late at night and issue highly questionable orders. The White House staff knew to double check his more unusual orders.
On the broader issue, "IS LIFE OVER FOR ALL OF AMERICA", this administration may turn out to be an extreme aberration from any administration in the past 60+ years in that is is reactionary, anti-intellectual, and designed to dismantle the modern federal government. They subscribe to some warped Ayn Rand vision of the world.
More specifically, Trump's cabinet choices were chosen for ideological reasons - to curtail, if not undermine the very purpose of the federal agencies they are charged to lead. For example, former Texas Governor Rick Perry has been nominated as Sec of Energy; in a 2012 debate, he famously forgot the name of the Energy Department while trying to list 3 departments that he would eliminate if he were president. (Rick Perry has a bullshit undergraduate degree in animal science (?), and he received Cs and Ds in his science courses. In contrast, the current head of the Energy Department has a PhD in Theoretical Physics from Stanford (?)) These ideologues are determined to role back the modern federal government that has been in existence since the 1940s and Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal programs. Only Americans in their 80s and 90s(+) have lived without the modern federal government. There will be plenty of legal challenges to curtail this reactionary ideology, but I don't think most Americans are

It's ok dear, we still love and care for you even if you hate us and hate yourself. You've talked about your Asperger's and your lack of enjoyment of sex, your frustration with gay life, self-hatred and disgust. I'm terribly sorry that you are so damaged and I hope you will find the help that you so desperately need.
As you're moving through your journey of self discovery, you're at the anger stage of grief as you struggle towards acceptance. And that's leading you to not only hate yourself but to lash out at others. I get that... as a song lyric once said: struggling like a fish caught on dry land, struggle to avoid any helping hand.
As you struggle to love yourself and to empathize with others -- and others struggle to empathize with you during your more hateful outbursts -- please understand that there are many out here who care, who hope for the best not just for you but for all who might find themselves in your similar challenging circumstances.
