A lot has changed in American culture in the past few decades in ways that I believe our health has suffered. And all though I don't have any proof, I believe that since pornography has become easily accessible, and acceptable; as well as new standards for appearances and sexual endeavors, that men (women too, but the comparisons of the act differ too greatly) masturbate at rates much higher than say 50 years ago. Obviously this is complete speculation, but I think it holds some truth.

So my question is, is masturbation, at high levels healthy? I've heard that it's good every so often to cleanse the body from a non expert; but most males I know masturbate multiple times each and every day. Does it not affect the body in a negative way? The heart flow, the hormones and stimulants in the body... I would think it would be somewhat of a negative, and obviously not a huge risk, but what are your thoughts?

Any factual proof provided would be interesting!

Unless it interferes with the rest of your life, relationships, and usual activities......

I wouldn't give it a second thought......it's as natural as the hick-ups.

Sorry love but I think your contention is bullshit. People have masturbated since time immemorial.

And yes. It's healthy.

I also know that for my grandfather his doctor instructed him "to ejaculate" as often as possible for his prostate.

My factual proof is this. I masturbate and I am healthy. So the answer to your question is yes.

On the serious side, regular ejaculation is very good for prostate health.

exactly ... when it starts to consume more and more of your time then what is set aside for friends, family, etc. is when problems arise

British and American studies concluded that a male should ejaculate at least five times a week or a total of twenty-one times a month for good prostate health. Elderly men who have ejaculated frequently during their lifetimes have the lowest rate of prostate cancer according to both British and American studies. Also, they recommend starting PSA tests at age forty. For an acurate PSA reading, no ejaculating for forty-eight hours before the blood draw.

Hey Stronzo,
I learned the hard way. Had to go back for a second bloodraw because I had been naughty the night before the first draw. The reading was alarmingly high, above 4, after the first draw. Under !.0 after being a "good boy" for a couple of days. But DO get a PSA starting at forty---The docs say better yet at thirty. My last reading was 0.9 It proves the medic's point: Lots of ejaculating leads to a healthy prostate---at least in my case it does, and I am one of the older members of LPSG.

I bow to your experience. I shall try to see how I can last 48 hours without enjoying myself.... then the PSA reading.

Great question!!!!!!

Of course it is. I can speak with some clarity. I have never had hair grow on my palms, and as a tender teen I often worked out several batches in a days time. As an older citizen in the 20s I did not self pleasure as often. Once I was married, I worked out the sperm the old fashioned way. Intercourse. I never stopped masturbation, just did not need to as often. Then, as now, regular sexual intercourse and fairly frequent masturbation has kept me active and I also think Healthy. I have the years to prove it. Not just theory.

Enjoy and continue to live a well balanced life.

I started my PSA tests at age 40 myself, but wasn't aware that I shouldn't ejaculate 48 hours prior to the test. That is some good information! Thanks.

These are symptoms, you're having when working out. What's negative about it?
I also heart on the radio, that you are less likely to get prostate cancer when you ejaculate at least 21 time per month. I don't know what makes them so sure about the number twenty ONE but hey, they are scientists, they are paid for it.

Masturbation is as natural as breathing. I know that once I masturbate, I am less tense and more relaxed. Dare I say that I am a happier person.

as a Doctor, I have been asked this by a few parents, after they discover their children are masturbating. fortunately, a lot less now than 20 years ago. Mothers are usually a lot more concerned about the health, (mental and physical) of their masturbating offspring, than fathers are.
First and foremost, masturbation is healthy. For men, and boys, it is important in that it keeps the prostate healthy and functioning. Studies have concluded that celebate men that do not masturbate suffer prostate problems at a much higher rate than non celibate and masturbators. The male body has an instinctual ability to shut down when mastubation has become too frequent. Men merely lose the ability to get erections, and too frequent of orgasms will diminish the quality of the orgasm, leading to less positive reinforcement to continue.
Some studies have tried to correlate excessive masturbation with a tendency to shun sex with partners. Most of those studies have been debunked.
