Is my cock too risky for art class?

Hey all,

Just posted 3 new pics which I really enjoy. Check 'em out!

http://www.lpsg.org/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/265766/cat/500/ppuser/77826

On a more serious note, they're intended to be used for a full body, nude self portrait drawing assignment in an art class I'm taking. As shown, the assignment calls for one seated, frontal, and rear composition.
We've been encouraged not to shy away from frontal nudity but to avoid the blatantly pornographic.

I've figure drawn before but never for a submission and I'm a bit nervous that my penis makes them a little raunchy even though the poses are not overtly sexual in their own right. It's no wonder why classic and renaissance artists chose to study modest models. On one hand I don't want to look pervy and on the other I'm not ashamed of my body and would like to depict it well.

Please weigh in on whether they are kosher or not. Or if you don't have anything to say just comment on the photos- I appreciate it either way!

You could always do a frontal pose that hides your penis. Just because it's frontal doesn't mean you have to sit with your legs spread wide.

Beautiful pictures. You've got an amazing body. They don't look pornographic to me. Stimulating? Yes. But there's no reason you should hide that body, even for art class.

Yeah, but the thing is that is quite a big cock. And while I don't think it'll make the sketches more raunchy I think sdg is in danger of being accused of exaggerating his penis size and being made to feel foolish and pervy for doing so.

I think you should use them. I don't know what medium you sketch in, I sketch in pencil mainly and sometimes charcoal and I think those images would be fantastic for either. I would suggest that you bring the original prints with you to class, not to show off but so that if someone says anything about you making your cock look stupidly big you can say "Um, my cock is stupidly big" (and just show the course instructor, not pass them round the class).

Or you could just draw your cock smaller than it is in the photos.

Would you post the sketches to this thread when done? I'd be interested to see them.

When I was a very young kid, (like 5 y.o.) I used to try and keep my penis at that flaccid state. It is the most aesthetically pleasing state, IMO. The totally unobtrusive completely un-erect dick looks funny to me, and of course boners are, well, boners. :D

I'd go for it, and I'd go for the second one. But.. just a little more flaccid, it still has a bit of erection in it. If they bitch, you tell them it was how you felt you looked best. And your cock doesn't look stupidly big. I wouldn't recommend a woman doing a self nude to shrink her tits because it might offend.

Thanks for all the opinions everyone. I may opt for a seated pose with a leg curled under to obstruct the view since that's the one generating the hesitation.

ManlyBanisters & Mademoiselle, I'd be happy to post the sketches when I do them. I'm a design student so fine arts hasn't been my focus in the past- as a result I have a bad habit of always sketching in staedtler pens since they'll actually show up on trace. For these drawings I want to use soft pencils on bristol board since there's a lot fine tone changes. The class is web based since I've been doing a lot of bouncing around the tri-state for summer projects; so, by nature I have to submit a photo of what I choose to draw for reference. The images are uploaded to a class studio folder which is visible by all for critique, but I go to a school of +40,000 so the chances of anyone recognizing my initials are slim to nil.

Good statement of the problem.

Good solution.

I actually like the second and third pictures the best. Something in the angle of the first shot and the way you are holding your head in the second shot throws them off alittle to me. Over all the second and third photoes have wonderful lines. I would not worry about being pornographic/ pervy in any of these because you are not aroused. I would also like to see your finished work. Goodluck!

I would almost say in the second one to have you head in a more downward direction. Regardless your body is beautiful.

Just be prepared for the attention, good and bad, that you may get as a result of exposing every detail of your body. As long as you're confident and prepared for negative reactions, I think do whatever you think is going to benefit you in the long run.

If I were you I wouldn't worry too much about your poses being too pornographic, you've just got a big dick, they have to accept it. Although a pose which only shows part of your dick might look more artistic. Just showing the base or the head would encourage people to use their imagination?

I think you're clearly somewhat tumescent in pics 1 and 2 ... and that's where things might come back and bite you.
But so what?
Do whatever appeals and suffer the consequences.
If you draw well, I assume nothing else will affect your mark.
As for others recognizing you, you've said yourself that that's unlikely. They'll only have your initials.
You must want to do this, or you wouldn't be asking the question.
Do it whole-heartedly, let whatever comes back roll over you, and learn from the situation.

Might add that your bod overall gives a pretty nice visual. Congrats on that.

I think you should draw what the hell you see. If you're going to be submitting the photo you end up using with the sketch then just draw which ever one you like the best and which you feel you can do the best sketch from.

What your tutors mean by pornographic is impossible to know and pointless to try to speculate about. If you draw what you see and don't apologise for your work then you have done exactly what you've been asked to do.

In all honesty I've never heard of tutors telling students to do life drawings of themselves and then specifying the nature of the depiction in that grimly moral a tone.

If I were you (though I'm not recommending you do this it's just how I'd react) I'd draw myself covered in sweat and spunk with a great big stonking erection and a 5 foot dildo in one hand and a rubber glove on the other and crisco within reach. Oh and a big shit eating grin on my face.

I hate moralising in art. I've fought against it all my professional life. There's nothing inherently pornographic about an erect penis, and drawing them does not make you a perv, unless your intention is to give others or yourself sexual pleasure (and nothing else) in doing so.
