Is raising the minimum wage really the best solution?

2 people husband and wife both making $15/hr can do ok in lots of places in America. If you earn $50000 in NYC, you only need $18000 to
live in Lincoln Nebraska. A 60% difference.

Do you feel broke now?

Agree with you 100%
Problem is people to not want to live within their means, they all have smartphones big screen TVs.... New York has bigger handouts then Nebraska and that's why people stay because government handouts. The government uses those handouts as bribes and to people to eventually vote for them, they need a permanent underclass.
If I can't afford a luxury I don't buy it, i don't go running to the government asking to help me out so I can get it.

The simple fact that the majority of low wage workers are making the money for those running the companies, and the vast, Vast difference in income gives me every reason to support raising the minimum wage.

I see no reason whatsoever why someone working 40/hrs a week should be living *less* than paycheck to paycheck. That was my life for 12 years. That is how I grew up. Most people I know as well. It makes no fucking sense.

I don't care how "meanial" the job is . If you spend a significant amount of your life dedicated to doing that job, you deserve to be paid a fair wage.
You deserve to be paid a fair wage what the job is worth not how long you been in that position

You misunderstood me. I don't care how long someone has been employed. Full time workers deserve full time pay, and not to be treated like they're just working over summer vacation to save for a fucking boombox.

There's a lot more to it than just "pay higher wages" and I don't have time to explain the entire situation, but what I've posted hopefully sums up a bit on my position.

Not quite true. It serves some, if not most of the people very well. It does pick winners and losers though, and most of the time the losers or their parents made bad decisions that made them
into losers.

It's true for conservatives. You can point out the most staggering disparity in wealth or income, no matter how stark--people living in luxurious high-rise towers overlooking miles and miles of abject squalor--and the answer is always the same: "It's theirs, they earned it."

As long as the game is played by some thin semblance of rules, no matter how rigged to keep the insiders in power, it's all good.

Where are there high rises overlooking miles and miles of squalor?

. People here think poor people in America are competing against other poor people in America. They aren’t.

No no no no....

We don't think it's poor people against poor people. It's the billionaire class paying off crooked politicians to implement policies that KEEP POOR PEOPLE POOR.

I was talking about the USA.

So was I.

Name those policies, DA FUCK. Name the crooked politicians doing so. Name the billionaires too.

When I have time, I will. A whole lot of it, the tax cuts Trump and Ryan are sucking themselves over... But I have to go to work in a few. So I don't have time to post links etc. Perhaps some of my fellow posters will throw some info at ya in the meantime ;)

Have a good afternoon all. Including those I argue on and on with... :p
