Rules for Re-gifting:

1. Keep the gift in its original packaging. This is a must! And make sure all the parts/accessories including the instruction brochure or manual are in the box.
2. Protect the gift and packaging from breakage and deterioration while it is being stored. Bag it to seal out dust and prevent fading from the sun.
3. Never regift something broken, used, has a part missing or doesn't work.
4. Never regift just to save money. The motive should always be to give a gift that will be enjoyed. Saving money in the end is just a bonus of regifting.
5. Never regift to the person who gave it to you. If there is any possibility you may forget who gave it, add a temporary removable tag to remind you.
6. Never regift something personal.
7. Never regift an item that is out of style. It's best not to store it too long. Appliances can and do go out of style over time. You wouldn't want to regift an older appliance when two 'improved' models are now on the market.
8. Give a gift that suits the receiver or that they'd love to get. This simple gift-giving rule applies even more so with re-gifting. Consider how it will be received. You wouldn't regift a blender to someone who hates to cook and bake, nor would you give a rustic country home decor item to someone with a contemporary styling.

I'm not big on re-gifting, but occasionally I'll donate an item to a charity garage sale or something like that. If I get too much candy, I'll bring it to the office to share.

I might rethink the whole re-gifting idea if I got stuff like this, though:

Why Did You Buy Me That

None of those gifts make any sense to me. I think and plan so carefully about what I choose for people. I can't imagine what possesses people sometimes. (Btw, if anyone ever got me the creepy stool....*shudder*)

That's probably true, but I sure hope no one thinks I wrote those rules! I remembered a discussion on NPR a couple weeks ago and googled "Rules for regifting." There are a million of them, some very funny.

Excuse me now, I'm gonna go jack off...

Yeah, was just muckin about. You got a sense of humour raf. Had a feeling they were from a magazine article or somewhere.

Hope it was good.......the jacking off part ;)

I don't believe in regifting, as I personally find it tacky. I also try and take the time to know someone well enough to buy them gifts that they'll appreciate, and cherish.

That being said, I have gotten a few doozies. Most when I was a kid/teenager. I kept them all, because they were kind of funny, like a potted stick, with a fake bullet. It had a sign that said on one side "What Am I?" and on the other, it said "A cartridge in a Bare Tree." I thought that was rather cute.
