Is reality TV the decline of society?

I don't think Reality TV is the decline of society. Rather its a mirror on a society that's been in decline for some time.

Does it encourage the decline? That's debatable. But I see American culture in particular becoming more and more like "The Lord of the Flies." Reality TV is just the conch.

i suppose it's only a decline in society if you live your life through the television and it becomes your world or your reflection of the world. living life vicariously through the tv shouldn't be a way of life but unfortunately it has become so. no wonder there's so many boring screwed up people out there today.
