Royal Wedding: Muslim fanatics plot to burn effigies of Kate Middleton and Prince William | Mail Online

Yet again the country is going to be a worldwide laughing stock. Can we cancel this wedding now please. I also hate to think how s**t the London Olympics will be, the whole world will be lauging at us once more. How I wish Paris or New York had got that Olympics?

What does everyone else think? Bet you Americans, Canadians, Aussies, etc are having a good laugh at Britain.
Oops, someone needs to come back with a re-appraisal!!!

I think it's a glorification of archetypes...princes and princesses, kings and queens, lots of military regalia and the common people watching the whole spectacle. I think it makes some people feel that traditions still exist in a rapidly changing and uncertain world. For me it seems anti-democratic and a huge waste of money.

Not for us tho - it's probably the only way for Britain to generate that amount of publicity on a world-wide scale, these days.

Apart from the Olympics, I guess - but that's expensive too, and not solely about us, lol.

How can it be un-democratic? We ARE a democracy and the monarchy is a constitutional one,i.e by the will of PARLIAMENT/PEOPLE.Besides the Queen is our Head of State. Why do you American's think the British people are living in the Middle Ages and are little more than voiceless serfs? The monarchy works for us and is still hugely popular as it is other European countries. As for being a waste of money, well methinks the revenue from tourism alone will have paid for it a few times over. You've got admit tho' we do these things impeccably,I thought it was great for Britain!

Why do you American's think.....
Why do "you Brits" think all Americans think the same. I really wish people would stop thinking that.

As for the royal wedding, I finally got around to watching the highlights, and it was glorious -- a modern day fairytale that put Disney to shame.

Beyond all the colorful pomp and pageantry, the thing that impressed me most was how genuinely happy and affectionate the couple looked. Within the constraints of royal protocol they seemed to be in their own intimate little bubble with the eyes of the entire nation and the whole world watching. Two billion viewers, holy crap!

The bride could not have been more poised, elegant and regal, while at the same time amazingly relaxed and natural. To think she was raised a 'commoner' and all this high protocol and public attention is new to her. I bet she's an amazing woman and going to have a profound positive effect on the monarchy, present and future.

I wonder if any of you were in the crowds there? It would be fun to hear about that. It looked like a blast.

To all my Brit friends I say, "Good show!"

Slight counterbalance to all the gushing: How is it no matter what she wears, Camilla always manages to look like fullback in drag?

Really? Didn't my murchun spelling give me away?
Not to mention a few Brits who typically beat up on me for all the past sins of America.

Cheers Max!
