Lol. So you, of all people, have no problem with a posting that says "that's what people I know that have traveled there have told me." You, and others here, who decry and attack anyone who fails to back up their views without factual data or links?!

Look, I could give a crap if you're gunning for me for anytime I post something, but keep it real dude. If someone says "someone told me" be man enought to say, ah, yeah, ok. And as for your passive agressive "let's not forget where he's coming from" once again you take 1 + 1 and arrive at 5.
If you feel his arguments fail to support his conclusions, then why not explain what's wrong with his arguments? Why complain about the fact that he is making arguments?

Fair enough, Oxnard. Appreciate the civilized challenge. But honestly, how does one counter to such a statement, one based upon hearsay? Does it even justify a response? Perhaps my post was a tad sarcastic (I will own it), but really. C'mon.

Racism involves cultural assumptions that most people aren't aware of. Study after study shows that most of us are more racist than we realize. Society has changed a lot in recent decades, but we still have a long way to go, thus I think it is of value to discuss these things in detail, even if it makes people in the privileged group feel uncomfortable.

Especially if it makes people in the privileged group feel uncomfortable.

There is unfortunately a natural human tendency to simply dismiss any information or argument that might cast a negative light on us, negatively impact us, or reduce an advantage that we have (self-serving bias). The way to overcome that unfortunate human tendency is to keep discussing things even when doing so makes people feel uncomfortable.

I have NEVER discounted that racism exists. What I object to is an unsubstantiated, irresponsible comment implying that the U.S. is more racist (as posts went on) than any other country because someone traveling here told them so. Racism exists everywhere around the globe, and to state it's more racist than somewhere else because someone told them so is, in a word, vapid.

Jjz1109, my experience reading american forums makes me think that americans are both more prone to violent attacks and racism than most of other developed countries' citizens; this is confirmed by what people who have been in USA have told me; those people are, in my views, trustable. This wasn't meant to be an argument, so your are perfectly free to believe or even write that me and/or people who told me those things are lying and other posters make theirs judgement if that is the more likely case or not.

I've lived in other parts of the world.

Yes, other parts of the world are also racist, but the racism is generally too different to make a meaningful comparison, unless one nation is doing something glaringly obvious and horrible.

That still does not mean it is wrong to have this discussion.

Is the USA a racist country? Yes it is! It is so racist that even our racists seem impressed. Donald Trump does have a British fan base.

If you include violent black on white crime in America as racism then, yes, racism is on the rise in America. Blacks commit far more racially motivated attacks, including that of murders, rapes, muggings, assaults, on other demographics then those committed by other races on them. You only see this when you actually look at the statistical crime data/facts and not fall for the hysteria, paranoia, Black Lives Matter lies, and the propaganda narrative the media helps perpetuate.

Truth is, comparatively, violent racist attacks by whites on blacks are rare.

Having said that I find it rather strange a person from Italy, Rome no less, would actually have the audacity to point a finger at another country and call it racist considering your country's long history of racism. Seriously, shall I begin by posting the countless videos and acts of racism, throwing of bananas at black players, racist chants, monkey noises, bigoted ultra attacks an behavior, at soccer matches? How many times have teams played to empty seats/stadiums because of this abhorrent behavior and through sanctions/penalties imposed by FIFA?

Racism exists everywhere but one doesn't see that type of blatant racist behavior at sporting events here in America as one does in Europe, especially in Italy.

The U.S. is the most diverse nation on earth. It is what our nation is all about. I can't tell you how many different ethnic restaurants are within a two block radius of my apartment. Until the late twentieth century and the schengen agreement, most of Eurpoe may have had pockets of ethnic diveristy, but nothing on the scale of our country. And racism existed, every so subtedly. We in the U.S. on the other had have been dealing with A new wave of immigrants every generation, and we also talk about it more, the injustice of racism, and we enact legislation to address. So does it appear to outsiders we are more racist? Without a doubt. But in reality, it's everywhere. And I agree, the self righteous finger pointing from others is quite hypocritical.

@Mercurygirl:

first, this thread is about America, not Italy. If you want to start a thread about racism in Italy instead than hijaking this thread, it would be better.

Second, two torts don't make a right, so you arguing makes no sense.

Third, there has never been apartheid neither exclusion of voting rights based on ethnicity or religion, where in USA universal suffrage dates to 1965, before that voters couldn't vote.

Fourth, every American racist keeps repeating that fact about one- just one - idiot in Italy who has shown a banna to a minister to make fun of her; in USA Obama has been called in the most insulting ways by countless right-wings, and you can see many examples of those hatred name callings in this very same forum, so it would be like USA 100 - Italy 1, as far as racism goes.

Fifth, your very same retaliative and violestyle helps making my point, with your blind pointing to blacks violence hand in hand without questioning the causes of that and ad hoc forgetting the countless proven examples of gratuitos, and often lethal, Police violence toward blacks in USA.

Sixth, I am not "pointing any finger", I am telling yours how USA is seen out of USA.

One thing you re right: yes, I am audacious.

That should be " ....there has never been apartheid neither exclusion of voting rights based on ethnicity or religion in Italy, where in USA universal suffrage dates to 1965, before that blacks couldn't vote"

You only see this if you assume all crime is racially motivated, then completely ignore evidence that African-Americans are more likely to be convicted (which is further evidence of racism).

How can you possibly live in this society and conclude that white people are the "real" victims of racism?

Maybe because, she probably was raised in an environment that believes in "fair and balanced" media information

Of course they hate the Donald.
