That's the spirit Peter, when you wake up tomorrow morning it'll all be a dream. But hang in there to everybody that's in the path of this storm. Again good luck, be safe, and my prayers are with you all.

Yes, dear Monstro...you always had the power
to go back to LPSG...

I know you are busy braving the storm.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

GreenEyes: To those that Isabel will be affecting please be careful and use your common sense. Mother Nature is so unpredictable and one never knows what kind of damage it will do.

Right now they are talking within an hour or two of it hitting the Carolinas. Again good luck. It will probably be hitting NY sometime during my night and into my Friday morning if it doesn't loose speed.

Why don't you come on over and join us in the fun of waiting to see what happens after the storm comes ashore. Being inland, we keep getting conflicting reports of what we'll see here. The last I heard was that it was going to just be some wind and maybe some rain. Right now, we have lots of clouds and wind.

Nah...it's 85 degrees here and very sunny, wouldn't wanna give that up :). But my thoughts are with you guys. This side of the Ocean has always had less natural disasters on it's hand luckily. I've experienced a relatively strong eartquake in the US and that scared the shit outta me enouygh already...

Hope Isabels 'wrath' weakens when she hits land...

Or as George would've said: "Ain't that right, Weezie?"

"Well we're movin' on up...up the East Coast..."
(Sorry, I couldn't stop myself!)

(As to Monstro riding his bike to the store: the basket with the little dog in it won't be the basket we're looking at. Especially if he's wearing those green Sans-a-belt pants. That'll take our minds off Isabel!)

Rainy and windy here. Not too bad. Gusts of about 22mph. Supposed to get worse from 3-6pm. UNC-Chapel Hill just cancelled class after 2. (UNC NEVER cancels classes!)

Took my dogs out around 10:00. Blustery. But, didn't seem too different from a generic Autumnal stormy day. But we'll see how the day progresses.

This is your LPSG on-the-scene reporter, Monstro, saying be smart, be safe, and remember the wise words of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, get your towel, relax, and "Don't Panic!"

inquiringmind: Hi Guys,

I just came in the house looking like a dirt dobber after tying everything down on the porches and putting the lawn furniture away. The sky is grey, wind is just beginning to whip up and it is drizzling already here. They say that tonight will be the worst of it for all of us but it should even be sunny by tommorrow afternoon . We shall see...

awellhungboi: Stay safe, Inquiring!

Here in Chapel Hill, NC at 1:30 pm the winds have really started to pick up. Gusts up to about 30 mph. Sustained winds are only about 10-15 mph, though. Definitely picking up, however. People seem to be more or less going about their business, but around 2 pm I expect everyone will be hunkering down, and riding it out. Around 3-6 is going to be the worst for us. My power may be going off sometime around that time--we'll see.

So far so good, though.

"Fasten your seatbelts, folks. It's going to be a bumpy night!"

My area of central Virginia is in the Hurricane Force Winds Warning zone and now they've added a Tornado Watch. The worst will come tonight from about 10pm to dawn.

It's a big, sturdy house on high ground surrounded by treed lots and the three huge gum trees that overhung the roof were cut down this summer. All the moveable objects in the yard (don't forget the garbage cans!) were moved to the garage yesterday.

Nothing to do now but to watch the coverage on TV and watch the wind and rain out the window, hoping beyond hope that the power stays on!

Thanks for all those IM's and PM's. It's nice to know you have friends who care. Please stay dry and safe.

Longhornjok: Hey! It looks like things could have been much worse, so hopefully the storm weakening before hitting land will minimize the impact for all concerned. Here's hoping!

I do want to pass on my good news and bad news re: Isabel:

GOOD NEWS - Washington, D.C. shut down for the day

BAD NEWS - based on the promos I've seen on CNN, every single show for the next 24-48 hours is already preparing their Isabel: The Aftermath "human interest" stories. Arghhh.

throb919: High and dry, safe and sound. Thank you all for your concern and kind words.

Was only without power for 4 hours. Lots and lots of small "tree debris" to pick-up--but no complaints--at least the small branches on the ground aren't still attached to the whole trees (on the ground)! No word from the beach place yet, but that's what insurance is for. We were all really lucky this time...

How'd the Virginians fare?

inquiringmind: Hi Guys,
I am checking in from MD here! We just got our power back on after being ou rsince around 3:00 pm EST yesterday. We had a cozy camp out with plenty of snacks for everyone and our neighbors all checked on one another. I am just now checking all of my emails and I don't even want to open the refrigerator.I think a trip to the dump is in order tommorrow.

Lost power for about 23 hours - we're lucky - some of our neighbors will not have power restored for days.

No water yet, though.  Good thing I filled up the bathtub yesterday.

The back yard's full of downed branches and limbs.  Down the street several trees uprooted, one taking a powerline with it.

In the entire city of 15,000, only two businesses did not lose power.

sammygirly: Yup Pecker, your experience sounds a lot like Max's (who I lost touch with at about 8PM last night and just heard from at about 5PM today). He says the power was out until about 4PM, and His land is COVERED in downed trees, the river swelled and flooded but otherwise all is well.

In the Ontario area, we are just now getting mid to heavy rain and some high winds - but it's nothing we don't see on a good rainy day any other time of the year.

I'm glad everyone's safe so far!
