Having read (and taken part in) many Israel based threads recently i thought that it was about time that a poll was raised....many people just cannot be asked to engage in long-drawn out debates about who is in the right or wrong.
Please refrain from arguing the point that the forum being made up mostly of westerners is going to have an inaccurate reflection on the poll, there are more than enough intelligent people with opposing views to indicate a general conclusion to the most popular opinion.

yep.....i disabled the function that allows people to see how others polled for anonymity reasons but its fair to say that most active members of the Israel threads are already aware of each others positions

Mitch, I don't want to rain on you parade, but they have my total support on some issues, some on others and very little on others. Isn't this the nature of the issue?

Didn't President Obama just ask us to stop seeing things in terms of sides?

    What part of this,:

We will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defense, and for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.

did you fail to understand ?

    My thoughts exactly.

My general support for Israel does not extend to the point of supporting unconscionable acts by Israel anymore than my Support for my own country makes me blindly accepting of immoral, illegal and unethical acts on the part of my government.

I abhor and oppose the idea of State religion in Israel every bit as much as I oppose and abhor the infiltration of religion into my own government.

In large measure, TRUE patriotism is the process of holding your elected officials feet to the fire. Those who blindly followed Bush into Iraq are no different than those who blindly followed Hitler into the holocaust.

The Palestinians are not without their own egregious flaws...

But, on BOTH sides of the conflict... it is the absolutists... those unable to admit error or concede a point that undermine any real solution.

Absolute support. You have to feel sorry for Israel really. A tiny, civilized country surrounded by 14th century savages.

No, you're right. I mean, some of them don't even have homes! Or running water! Or FOOD! Savages...

Modern homes are the technology of the civilized. Carved out of trees and stone by the tools of the civilized. Paid for by the discipline and thrift of the civilized.

Homes are not purchased at the point of a sword or the trigger of a suicide bomber.

You're not going to make the point with people who are ethically corrupt. In their eyes THE UNDERDOG IS ALWAYS RIGHT.

Because to them, the underdog possesses the same flaw they see in themselves; Weakness

I believe Eric Hoffer said it best-

Power corrupts the few while weakness corrupts the many.

Do you mind giving me some honest answers?

Do you know where your ancestors were in the 14th Century?

Have you ever been to the Middle East?

Have you ever been to a developing Country?

My ancestors in the 14 century? Irrelevant! For all I know they were savages just like Hamas et al. And if they were, all I can say is good riddance to them. I make no prideful claims of heritage or other such foolishness.

I think the poll should have included "some:"
    All support
    Most support
    Some support
    No support

As I think no side is without blame, I would answer "some."
