What do you do?

I personally go the wrong route (like right now) and pick up my phone. I know it'd be much more effective to pick up a book or quietly watch TV for a few minutes, but the phone being on the bedside table is so convenient. Most nights I take melatonin to help me fall/stay asleep, but on nights like tonight where I already know I will be getting less than 6 hours, I tend to avoid it so I don't feel sick in the morning.

I'm just curious as to how other people combat this so I could maybe try out some new ways to help myself get to sleep!
And yes, wanking is already fairly typical in my bedtime routine!

Apart from everytime having my very best sleep for several days on end, with fresh clean linen incl pillow slips, a shower and just laying there willing myself into slumber
impractical as it is most of the time, does work.

my 2nd option is to lie perfectly still and attempt to totally blank out the brain, from the days and ALL activity, just clear the mind of everything... has often worked for me ..

NO wanking previous btw ..

Socal's post sounds good!

I normally just go downstairs for a brew (tea) if I can't sleep for more than 20 or 30 mins. Chill out by the fire, or watch something relaxing - then I try again later.

You may need your whole sleep routine and sleep hygiene looking at tho (google). :p

As a rule I fall asleep a few minutes after my head hits the pillow. The exception being jet lag from crossing the international date line in either direction so I resort to a chill pill and a nightcap. Sometimes I just get up and watch reruns if Murder She Wrote in the middle of the night and just enjoy a cup of tea and the quiet of the night and how soothing Angela Lansbury is as Jessica Fletcher.

Yes!

I also think, if you're not gna sleep - just relaxing and lying down is almost as good, so you might as well accept it.

If it's a recurrent problem tho, then there's obv things you need to do about it. :/ Good luck, LS! :)

This might sound a lil weird but I think about what it would be like if people I knew were on a tv show instead of the actors/contestants (because it typically is reality tv). I know many try to leave the tv on a sleep timer so it will turn off after they fall asleep. I adapted it in a way because the light from the tv keeps me up.

Aww. :p Pretend it's on BBC and see what happens, haha (there aren't any commercials/ads). :D
