Barack Obama will be the 44th President of the United States.
The last step in our convoluted presidential election process concluded today: at 1:08 pm Eastern time, members of both houses of Congress convened in a Joint Session to read and ratify the votes cast by the Electoral College back in December.
At this point, in theory, any Electoral College ballot can be challenged if a member of the House and a member of the Senate request a challenge (the challenge must be brought by both houses.) No challenges were brought forth. Also, there were no faithless electors. At 1:35 pm, the Vice President reported that by margins of 365-173 each, Barack Obama and Joseph Biden were elected President and Vice President of the United States.
