"CALIGULA, MY SON" (UK) 1979
Director: Tinto Brass, Bob Guccioni.
Stars: Malcolm McDowell, Peter O'Toole, Helen Mirren.

This Film has caused a stink right from it's release. Thanks to different country's making different 'cuts'. There have been various versions avaliable. Check out the "Imperial Edition" DVD, and look for the full uncut version of the Film within that package. This version seems to be the 'real deal', and actually feels like the finished article.

"SEANCE ON A WET AFTERNOON" (UK) 1964
Director: Bryan Forbes.
Stars: Kim Stanley, Richard Attenborough, Margaret Lacey.

One of those classic Films that manages to create a slightly 'other worldly' atmosphere. A story about the kidnapping of a child. And the relationship between the perpetrators of the crime, a husband and wife. The three main roles of the film are acted with excellent effect. One of Richard Attenborough's greatest roles.

"GREEN STREET" (aka "Green Street Hooligans") (UK) 2005
Director: Lexi Alexander.
Stars: Elijah Wood, Charlie Hunnum, Claire Forlani.

This is the best film about Football (Soccer) Supporters, made to date. A Film with Attitude. Could this be Elijah Wood's strongest role?.

"BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA" (US) 1974
Director: Sam Peckinpah.
Stars: Warren Oates, Isela Vega, Robert Webber.

This is one of the most underated American gangster films made. "Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia" is a hot, gritty, dirty fuck of a Film. It's up there with the best!.

"ANGEL-A" (FRA) 2005
Director: Luc Besson.
Stars: Rie Rasmussen, Jamel Debbouze.

A cool romantic comedy fantasy about a down on his luck migrant currently living in Paris. Who meets up with a fallen-angel. A better piece of work from Luc Besson. Than his later re-incarnations of "Nikita".

"BLACK CANDLES" (aka "Los Ritos Sexuales Del Diablo") (Spain) 1982
Director: Jose Ramon Larraz.
Stars: Helga Line, Vanessa Hidalgo, Jeffrey Healey.

From the Director of the extremely underated "Vampyres". This is another sexually charged horror film. An erotic movie with a strong storyline.

"CAPRICORN ONE" (US) 1977
Director: Peter Hyams.
Stars: Elliot Gould, James Brolin, Vaccaro, O.J. Simpson.

An intriguing thriller about a manned mission to Mars. Some would say replace "Mars" with "Moon", and that's the real story. O.J. Simpson's coolest film role.

"CRONOS" (Mexico) 1993

A great horror film from one of the current masters of this genre. Like a superior "Hell Raiser".

"BLITHE SPIRIT" (UK) 1945
Director: David Lean.
Stars: Rex Harrison, Constance Cummings, Kay Hammond.

A 'quaint' but cool comedy about a Man haunted by his dead Wife. One of those movies that if you enjoy it, you'll quite happily watch time and again.

"SALO, OR THE 120 DAYS OF SODOM" (Italy) 1976
Dirctor: Pier Paolo Pasolini.
Stars: Paolo Bonacelli, Giorgio Cataldi, Umberto Paolo Quintaville.

Although this is possibly the only film I have ever walked out of a Cinema from through shock/disgust. I feel I really need to see it in it's entirerity. I also feel this film should be seen by a wider audience.
Based on true events. The story is set in a small Italian town during the second World War. This is a film that was made to shock, not for shock's sake. But because the story needed to be told.

You have picked a wonderful selection of films here. I agree with you about Salo. The first time I saw it was on DVD and it was really hard to sit through. But once I finished it I see that it was not made to make a fuss being so shocking, but to show how shocking humanity can be. I once read an article I think by French director Catherine Breillet who has directed such shocking films as "Romance" and "A Very Young Girl" where she said that everyone should have to see this movie once to see how depraved humanity can be, and I agree. As for Caligula, I recently purchased the newest version on DVD which comes with 4 disks and has the definative version as well as the one cut for theatre's. I know a lot of footage is lost forever but this is the best version they have out now. It has commentary from Malcolm McDowel and Helen Mirren as well as a disk on the making and interviews with all involved including the Penthouse Pets used. If you are interested in this film you can get this version through the BBC America shop or Acorn Media. I highly recommend it for those of you who are interested in a film that caused such a ruckus when it was released. As for Salo, the Criterion edition is the ultimate because it has been total restored to as close as Passolini wanted it and includes great interviews with some of the stars and those involved in the making. Along with this comes a disk with a documentary about Passolini's mysterious murder right before it came out and how it may had to do with that film itself. I found this at my local Barnes and Nobel so it must be easy to find anywhere online. Like Jacknoir said, it's not for the faint of heart, but it should be seen to see how low humanity can sink when thinking the end of the world they created is crumbling around them.

"QUATERMASS AND THE PIT" (UK) 1967
Director: Roy Ward Baker.
Stars: James Donald, Andrew Keir, Barbara Shelley.

One of my favourite Sci-Fi movies. Just what is unearthed during excavations for a new underground line in London?. Some of the effects in this film are bad, some are excellent. Forget the effects, the storyline and acting are first class. The atmosphere is creepy. One of Hammer Productions greatest Films.

"RIFIFI" (AKA "Du Rififi Chez Les Hommes") (FRA) 1955
Director: Jules Dassin
Stars: Jean Servais, Carl Mohner, Robert Manuel.

A classic French film about a jewellery heist. Loads of atmosphere and loads of attitude. Watch out for the scene in which no words are spoken between the protaganists.

"THE ODESSA FILE" (UK/WEST GERMANY) 1974
Director: Ronald Neame.
Stars: Jon Voight, Maximilian Schell, Maria Schell.

An underated thriller from the 1970's. A journalist finds himself getting involved in a plot to uncover a Nazi conspircy. The twist in the storyline towards the end of this film, is nothing short of awesome. One of Jon Voight's finest roles.

"OH, MR PORTER!" (UK) 1937
Director: Marcel Varnel.
Stars: Will Hay, Moore Marriot, Graham Moffatt.

One of the greatest british comedies of all time. Starring Will Hay and his brilliant sidekicks Moore Marriot and Graham Moffatt. If you like Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello and/or The Three Stooges. Then check these guys out.
Underated even in the UK, it's time the "BFI" spent some money on restoring the entire catalogue of Will Hay films. Starting with this one, and the rarely seen "Where's The Fire?". Or is it already too late for that one?.

"THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS" (USA) 1976
Director: Jonas Middleton.
Stars: Catherine Burgess, Jamie Gillis, Laura Nicholson.

This has to be one of the few feature length porn films. That contain a storyline capable of keeping the whole thing together. I only saw the 'soft-core' version on video. If a hardcore version is avaliable, check it out.

"THEY LIVE" (USA) 1988
Director: John Carpenter.
Stars: Roddy Piper, Keith David, Meg Foster.

Not a classic in any way, shape or form. The idea's behind "They Live" are strong. The first part of this film concentrates on building the lead character's background. Set in the familiar surroundings of recession hit L.A.. You get to see things that are normally hidden from regular Hollywood movies. The film also delves into 'subliminal messaging'.
With a clever script writer, this film would make for a great remake.
