One of those near forgotten gems. Set in post-war London during the early 1950's. The film tells the story of two sailors, their friendship and differences in relation to how they choose to live. Great story, great cinematography and excellent acting. An underrated classic.

A slow-paced psychological thriller about a salesman near the top of his game. Guy Pearce plays the salesman whose car breaks down and causes him to have his fortune read. The story then unravels.

Set in 1960's London, the film tells the story of a young newly-wed couple. It's about people who don't fit in, outsiders, Bikers. Gritty and realistic, the story is solid and the acting excellent. Cool film.

I caught this film by chance on "FilmFour". Shot in black and white and made on a low budget. The film is about two convenience store clerks and the people they meet during a working day. Quite realistic and very funny, in a juvenile kind of way!.

A film about a young man's obsession on tracking down a beautiful woman he met in the past. The story follows the main character around the streets of a old town. Great acting, excellent cinematography, an unusual take on an old tale. You feel like you've been on a tour of beautiful European town/city. This is a cool film.

"THE GHOST OF ST. MICHAELS" (UK) 1941

Stars: Will Hay, Claude Hulbert, Felix Aylmer.
Will Hay is one of my Hero's. "THE GHOST OF ST. MICHEALS" was the second film he made for Ealing Productions. Will Hay is a teacher taking up a post at a public school on the Isle of Skye. The school is supposed to be haunted. The pupils are intelligent, but can they outsmart Will Hay's Teacher?. It's a shame that when Will Hay joined Ealing Studios. He left his partners Moore Marriot and William Moffatt at Gainsborough (Studios). These guys combined were a quality combination.

"THE WOMAN IN BLACK" (UK/CANADA/SWEDEN) 2012
Director: James Watkins.
Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Janet Mcteer, Ciaran Hinds.

Based on a story which was adapted for a play, and is still drawing in the crowds. This is quite a clever production by "Hammer Films". Daniel Radcliffe stars as a London based solicitor sent to a lonely, isolated part of the country. To tie-up any loose ends connected to a deceased estate.
Like the play, a creepy atmosphere creates a feeling of unease.
A sequel has just been released, hopefully it is as good as the first.

Stars: Giuseppe Fuda, Bruno Timpano, Nazareno Timpano.

Set in an Italian hill-top village (in the present). This is a poetic film about Life and Death. There's hardly any narrative, this film is all about the visual, and audible ambient surroundings. A slow paced story designed to 'ground you'.

If you've seen the episode of "Paranormal Witness" I recommended a while back. Here is another series, that features an episode on the "Rendlesham Forest Incident". Different/new ex-military Personnel are interviewed. This look's as though it could become bigger than the "Roswell Incident"!?!.

Where "Twilight" and it's like have spoiled/soiled the Vampire theme. "BYZANTIUM" is a film that injects fresh blood into the genre. Set in an English coastal town. The story is split between two different time periods. Directed by Neil Jordan ("Company of Wolves", this is a cool movie.

Stars: Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Famiga.

An intelligent Sci-Fi Thriller about Life, consciousness and the theory of a Parallel Universe/s. I like this film, shades of "Donnie Darko", "Jacobs Ladder" and "The Philadelphia Experiment" are all present in this movie. Nice one.

Yet another classic from Ealing. A feel good movie about an English country village and the majority of it's inhabitants. Who find out they're about to lose their rail service. They decide run their own. Watch out for Sid James, who makes an early cameo role in this film.

Made in 2010. This film is based on the autobiography of one of Italy's most notorius criminal's of recent times, Renato Vallanzasca. Although not as polished as the more 'fictional' "Romanzo Criminale", (also Directed by Michele Placido). It's tells a more convincing story than "Mesrine". Actor Kim Rossi Stuart looks set for his career to go international.
