When I was just entering high school I loved a hokey program called Airwolf starring Jan-Michael Vincent. Actually what I really loved was the Bell 222A (N3176S) that was all tricked-out to look like a helicopter-turned-futuristic fighter; a reverse-engineered machine invented out at Area 51. The damn thing ignored all laws of aerodynamics and physics, and whenever Jan-Michael Vincent went after the bad guys in Airwolf he was accompanied by great thumpeta-thumpeta music.

And now Jan-Michael Vincent has passed away. TMZ reported it was last month but somehow the news is just filtering-out now. He was 73, but gauging from the deterioration in his appearance over the last few decades his organs must have had the equivalent "airframe hours" of someone over a hundred. When a person abuses alcohol every day of their life it tends to accelerate the aging process.

I wanted to express my sadness at the passing of Jan-Michael Vincent. He was one of my earliest man-crushes, after seeing him in the movie Big Wednesday. As a young man, he was incredibly beautiful and sexy, the epitome of a particular kind of American masculinity.

RIP, Jan-Michael.
