Well, it's not totally Japanese, but...
Top-end asian porn often drifts into the artistic, and the pornstars devote alot more effort into the presentation and acting. They're also alot more liberal in their pornography styles, often pushing it as far as legality will permit... (and sometimes even further).

Japanese law prohibits some of the things they are allowed to show. The adult industry just became clever in the porn they created. Many think that is why bukakke was born, not to humiliate women, but because at the time they weren't allowed to show certain things (I think, this is from memory). I still believe Japanese law requires that it be censored if put online. At least for the adult mangas and adult doujinshis I know they don't have to censor it unless it is uploaded to the internet. Videos I'm not sure what the rules are.
