Jared Padalecki

I refuse to believe on the other hand that he and his other male supernatural costars arent aware of the obvious homoerotic queer-baiting they did behind the scenes of supernatural and at conventions. I mean let's be real they know the gay community are fans and are doing that so they'll stay. I love the Supernatural show but I hate queerbaiting with a passion lol
see this is proof positive I mean theyve acknowledged they know fans ship them with other male characters but they use that for queerbaiting, my question is why do it?

I don't believe they knew they were being homo-erotic when they started out, but I do believe they eventually realised it and played up to it. The Dean-Castiel material in SPN season 8 was gay AF, but then they chickened out and drifted away from it again in later seasons.

There are three reasons that male characters end up getting "shipped" together, that all twist around each other:

1. TV writers are incapable of giving female characters any agency and they inevitably get killed off, so male-male relationships will always end up being more intense and long-running than male-female relationships, which people read as romantic regardless of the intention because only the male characters have actual personalities to connect to
2. TV directing requires actors to get much closer to each other than normal humans would in everyday life just so they fit in the same camera shot, so while these men are having these intense relationships with no women around, they're doing it right up in each other's personal space
3. LGBTQ viewers are so desperate for self-representation on TV that they forcibly read massive emotional arcs into tiny unintended actions or expressions just so that they can feel some kind of connection to the characters

And then once the writers/actors/producers figure this out, they play up to it because it gets them buzz and press, but they don't go through with it because:

1. they don't know how, god knows if they can't write women who are 51% of the population then they definitely can't write queers who are only about 5%. I mean look at Teen Wolf - actual canon gay characters in the cast, but so under-written that viewers still ended up shipping two ostensibly straight male characters together
2. pretending to be gay while not actually being gay means they can get awards from GLAAD and adoration from the people who are capable of picking up on those queer cues, while not alienating those viewers who wouldn't want to see actual gays and are not capable of picking up on the subtle cues anyway, they just see guns and monsters and fast cars

None of this is a good thing, obviously, it's just how it works as I see it

God, Walker is just so basic. Like, I'm struggling to even skip through an episode to check for any skin shown. And still nothing on that front...
Tbh...I was pretty sure it would be, but I still plan to check it out. I'd sit through an hour of watching Jared watch paint dry

Wow, you summed it up perfectly. And I know they didnt realize this from the beginning but I knew they became aware of it through the show's running. My thing is the show was already a huge freaking hit why do this crap to bait in the lgbtq fans. Come to think of it aside from Charlie, there werent any lgbtq characters on the show really, other than that couple from the episode with the Supernatural convention

Speaking of women having agency and representation, we certainly can't have a conversation about shipping without acknowledging the community who comprises the majority of shippers and fanfic writers: straight women. Sometimes, the motivations really are just as simple as that people like seeing pretty things which arose them.

Nice! Glad to see Jared continuing to do well.
The Walker show is out already? Hm I might check it out if Im bored, but hey even if the show tanks Im sure he has more than enough Supernatural money to tide him (making a damn half a million dollars an episode) and his family over for more than a while, plus if Im not mistaken he has a winery.

that is very true, straight women would ship them more than gay guys would. (On a personal note I find it funny they'll fantasize and gush about two guys being together but will give hell to any bi/pansexual guy that dates them.....been there done that, why I stopped dating straight women)

No way in hell an actor on a CW show is making 500K an episode. You are talking about close to 12 million a year for 22 episodes. Top actors on FOX, CBS, ABC, and NBC shows don't even cross that territory. Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon only made $1M per episode for The Morning Show. CW shows are the lowest rankings shows on TV. It's C-List.

Jared and Jensen didn't even get a producer or executive producer credit after doing the show for so long.

I doubt it was that much either, but it surely was in the six figure range. On top of that, the show had been in syndication for years and will probably continue to be our quote a long time. And I'm due he makes some change from those first few seasons in Gilmore Girls which is also in syndication. He's set either way.

According to Golden Buffalo TV, Jensen Ackles made $175,000 per episode for Supernatural. My guess would be Padalecki got around the same.

A little more realistic. The leads on a top show such as "This Is Us" are only making $250K an episode, and so its definitely not close to that range.

Ruby Rose who did Batwoman on The CW only made 60-75K per episode. Grant Gustin made close to 100K for The Flash. I agree with the $125K for Jared. For some reason Jensen has always had a higher salary.
