Should a skinny 30-something woman wear jeggings?

Tina Fey loves to make fun of them, but what do you think? I'm a skinny woman but I'm in my mid-30s. Should I add this article of clothing to my wardrobe? What do you think of them?

Oh, and if you don't know what I'm talking about, click here: Jegging

Age has nothing to do with what you wear. You have something to do with it though. I like the look of them, maybe with a long shirt and some hip calf high boots? Your age has nothing to do with looking good. Gah, I hate to see women who reach a certain age let themselves go and wear granny clothes. I also hate to see young girls in women's clothes. LOL. so, yeah as long as you don't look like a hooker, you're good in my book. ;) Style is something you create! Go for it.

Monel, I realize that, but I also don't want to be like those moms I remember when I was a teenager who looked like they hadn't updated their look since their kids were born. It's delicate, not looking terribly out-of-fashion but avoiding "trying too hard."

Absolutely. But one doesn't need to dress like a 16 year old to look modern and fashionable (and of course I am speaking generally). I don't care how great a shape a parent is in, if he/she is dressing like his/her teenager it's time to re-evaluate the wardrobe.

If u look good for your age and have the figure to pull them off then by all means, don't think there has to be an age barrier with certain item's of clothing or let someone else's opinion deter you away from something that YOU would like to wear. Its your body, your still young and make the most of what you've got while you've still got it :)

Btw, i particularly like the style of the one's 4th one in of the jegging pics.

You could just paint your legs blue and get the same effect. :biggrin1:

Nah, I'm probably the worst person to give advice on clothes.
My decision tree when buying new clothes consists of asking myself whether or not they're comfortable, affordable and weather-protecting.

Zyz, skirts just aren't practical any more. Before I had a baby, I wore skirts and dresses and high heels nearly every day, but now that I have a toddler, I need to be able to get down in the sandbox with him and crawl through the jungle gym tunnels without flashing the daddies that come there with their kids. Having covered knees also helps keep them from getting even more bruised and hide all the bruises I already have from doing mom stuff. [QUOTE/]

I fully accept that - I was thinking more about in the workplace & socialising... I'm always in two minds over heels, as I dislike anything blocky; delicate is good.

Right now I'm having a 'girl with flowing hair & ivory Empire-line dress running barefoot through sun-dappled woodland' moment. Barefoot & dress is a brilliant combination...

For my money Jeggings only look fabulous as out wear on super models or women with thin long legs...much like skinny jeans and then only in either black or white.

Shorter women and or thicker women can't get away with it and would be better off wearing something longer that helped create the illusion of length of leg esp when teamed with a nice heeled boot or pump.
Having pants that stop mid shin or at the ankles makes them look shorter.

LOL, hilarious answers! Thanks everyone!

You could always wear something in a tougher fabric, or maybe a little bit longer. Try this on for size! And, it's a renewable, environmentally conscious choice...

but most people wear jeggings with a long top, like this, so muffin tops really aren't an issue.
Then how do they differ from that dreadful dance-tights look in the early 90s...just a slightly different fabric?

Why not just go back another decade, and go for the Bea Arthur look? She always looked comfortable.

I'm not a fan of jeggings... on me..

I never really pay much attention to other people in them... I think if you are slim and have an attractive figure (and am certain that you do) ... if you feel comfortable in them, wear them.

There is no one style for everyone. Why they make different styles.

If I were 20 or 30, I'd not wear them, b/c I personally don't think they would flatter me.. I am very tall... and kinda "hippy"... (no.. not the flower child kind of hippie.. LOL)

I have a pair of jeans that are technically jeggings. They look like jeans but are softer. I think the big problem is the kind of material and women buying them 10 sizes too small.

If they look like they were painted on? Probably not a good idea.

I think this is the key point - what the jeggings are made of. I have a pair that are of a heavy stretch fabric (similar to a heavy french terry), have fully functioning pockets, belt loops, a zip fly, and have a little room to spare in the ankle. They're heavy enough to smooth out any lumps and bumps, without making me look underdressed.

The horrible ones are the very thin, stretchy fabric, like dance or athletic leggings. They usually have the pockets and seam detailing printed on, and are unflattering to pretty much everyone.

I saw a young woman on the weekend who was wearing cheap 'n' nasty jeggings. You could see her arse through them. Though maybe that was the point?

Pardon me, but I live under a rock. How are jeggings different from skinny jeans?

This is a tough question. Generally, I think if you've got the body for it you should go ahead and wear it. On the other hand, I'm a guy, and women tend to have other opinions about women who dress younger than their age.

I'd say that in you mid-30s you can still do it if you're fit enough. It helps to be skinny like Charlize or Victoria Beckham. By the time you hit 40, regardless of how fit you are I think the appropriateness of jeggings drops off very, very quickly.

And you don't have to dress them up in sky high platforms. I think a ballet flat with the jeggings would be better for a woman in her 30s.

Depends on how comfortable you are in them, what you wear with it and what your trying to do. I'm a guy so when it comes to fashion i really don't have a clue so in that area it boils down to comfortability. As for attraction well i've slowly been attracted less and less to skinnier women. So if you have some curves i'd say go ahead and have fun.

I have to say I saw a 60's something lady in jeggings today .. silver hair..... long skinny legs and ... I'm sorry ... but they just didn't go...

I thought "uh uh no wayyyyyy" but she thought she was hot in them.

I guess there was some 60's something guy telling her she did look hot ...

(and don't get me wrong... I am no spring chicken myself, but I do believe there are some things that are just not age appropriate.....but of course, Petite, you are still very much in the safe zone)
