We used to have a good, solid, JO club in downtown DC called JO Enthusiasts. I believe it came into existence in the mid 1970's. For many years, it met in a townhouse on Florida Ave. northeast of the Dupont Circle area. Some years later in the 1990's, they met in a townhouse on near the intersection of 14th & Q Streets, N.W. This JO club was very popular. A good 50-60 guys would show up to bate for an hour and a half on Sunday afternoons. On Thursday nights, a smaller number.

While many guys who bated there were gay, quite a few str8 and bi married men also showed up over the years. What impressed me about JO Enthusiasts was a sense of real community of bators in downtown Washington, DC. Quite a few guys also came in from the burbs to bate, and even some from several hundred miles away.

Unfortunately and sadly, JO Enthusiasts came to a sudden and abrupt end when the owner of the townhouse got in a scrape with the law in mid October 2009. So our JO group lost its space and so far no other space has been found.

Yes, groups of DC area bators met in smaller groups to bate. But you have to know individuals for an entrance into the action. Also most, if not all of, these JO groups meet way out in the DC burbs, impossible to reach if you do not have a car. Very frustrating!

P.S. If any DC area bators read my post here and know of JO groups I could be a part of, please let me know. Thank you!

Yeah, I would see that as the biggest stumbling block to having a successful ongoing venue. You need to have a regular environment that can support 50-60 guys on a regular basis that does not draw the ire or curiosity of nosy, prudish neighbors.

RCJ's in Seattle meets in a shared warehouse....shared meaning there are other clubs of similar yet differing interests that also "rent" time at the warehouse on a regular basis. Since it's in a partial industrial area on a busy thoroughfare and is unmarked, it's a great place and keeps a low profile.

There was a guy that ran a similar club for several years out of his house in a mid-cities suburb of Dallas/Ft Worth. It went well until his diabetes caught up with him and he could no longer provide the venue. It sorta fell apart after that. It takes a dedicated individual or group of individuals to keep a venue like that operating. That's why you don't see them happening to often.

Hmmmmmmm I live in Seattle and have heard of RCJ but never have gone. I would like to go with someone else. So I do not feel like I am going alone. That is just me though.
Yeah same here. I live in Seattle and I've been wanting to go for a while but haven't gathered the courage right now to do it. I'll give it time and go in when I'm ready. This guys' story about it helped make me feel ready lol.

Very nice account, oacliffbuddy

It struck me as a very candid and honest account of your expectations, overcoming some inhibitions and finally feeling at ease in a new environment.

I went to a bathhouse here in São Paulo two days ago and went through similar impressions. I only wish the men here were not constantly wrapped in their towels. I would love to be able to go to a JO club where the dressing code was more basic, the ultimate basic, actually. I agree with you that nudity levels every social difference off. It is truly a blessing being among people who have no social tags weighed on their bodies by clothes.

I would like to read more similar accounts, maybe in the same thread.

Take care

I can't believe these amazing clubs have been around for so long. The newsletters from the 80s have such hot pics. Pre-internet they must have been an amazing source of 'inspiration' for jacking off! Thanks for the post, will definitely look up these clubs next time I'm travelling to the States.

Went to one in Chicago one time while on business trip. Was interesting, would not want to repeat that specific experience. I went because I genuinely thought it was going to be just a bunch of guys jacking off to porn and maybe in the process you meet some cool nudist friends. I was apparently the youngest and hottest dude there. Had a ton of older guys surrounding me, staring at me like a steak dinner, feeling me up, stroking, sucking me, other guys were having full on sex on the floor, the bed and I was desperately trying to barely maintain a semi. Could not get fully hard and never came, it was somewhat awkward. The nudity part was fine and relaxing, it was people treating me like a sex object and all the gay sex going on by closeted married guys that put me in the Twilight Zone.

Looked into a local group here where I live and sure enough after asking around and asking for specifics of what that group does, was going to be Chicago 2.0.

Often thought of just starting up my own group through CL, having it at my house, just spread it through word of mouth.

Some years back there was a Naturist club in Nashville, hosted mostly at private homes, altho occasionally at a club or some other place. You had to remove your clothes. It was not just a jack-off club, lots of things went on. You had to respect other guys' personal space, and it seemed everyone was pretty friendly, and many knew each other. It was different from a bathhouse where everyone runs around in a towel, so you can't view the object of interest. Can anyone explain why towels are required at most bathhouses? Or do you know some where they are not?

Towels certainly aren't required at any of the bathhouses I've frequented (Colorado and Arizona) and I always wear mine around my neck.
