It's just myself and this retired guy at my gym who I know where jockstraps. I had to break the news to this retire guy that both Bike and UnderArmour no longer make jockstraps. I wear a variety of straps, but he tends to wear the traditional white large waist banded jockstrap.
I get a little self-conscious putting my jockstrap on and adjust the straps in the men's locker room. I feel it more so when I am alone and worrying about a guy coming in and seeing my butt cheeks and straps, LOL.
A few years ago I had given advice to this newbie triathlete after he told he he was very self-conscious in the changing tents. I told him to wear a swim strap, more like a g-string to cover his cock for modesty.

They are certainly still going strong in NFL football, and most of the chain sports stores still have a selection available, usually for High School and college baseball I suppose. It may be less common but im sure any guy who considers himself to be at *least* athletic, or at most "a JOCK" still has one tucked away in his gear drawer at home.

As i said before, i think there needs to be some sort of pop-culture catalyst (like a movie) to be a positive push to re-energizing their popularity. White undershirts surged in sales after "Rebel without a Cause" and James Dean were a hit. The same can and WILL hold true for the athletic supporter, its only a matter of time.

Sometimes individual gym locker rooms have their own culture. I've seen a YMCA that alot jock up, I've seen others in their underwear or commando.

I challenge any guy to start wearing one locker room and others will follow.

I am not sure how a jockstrap at the gym can be "too obvious".
A jockstrap is the ultimate men's athletic underwear, the best support for your testicles while not having unneeded coverage.
Definitely wear your jockstrap at the gym.

In my area the new trend is fancy compression shorts or tights underneath shorts. Some guys I've seen commando under their compression gear, most wear boxer briefs or briefs underneath. I wish more guys would wear jocks, I would love for that trend to spread in DC/ Northern VA gyms.

The most fond memories I have of jockstraps though are of when the coach used to check us for jocks in high school. I remember thinking “what a great job that you get to inspect so many guys”. Our coach got in trouble and almost fired after I graduated from high school. He had punished a student by making him do sit ups nude with a fellow athelete standing over him. The idea was to have the guilty student come face to face with the other students jock clad crotch with each sit up. The students defended the coach, but parents were livid. It was a front page story. Could you imagine living through that fiasco knowing you were either of the involved students?

True story, and apparently this hazing ritual that got the coach fired went viral, with hundreds of videos shared of people getting tricked into doing The Ultimate Sit Up.

Just received a shipment of Gym brand (aka Bike) as my other athletic ones were knackered for the gym and every day wear. Need a bit of breaking in, but glad to have some standard jocks back in my gym rotation.

After wearing them for a week for gym work/after a wash the Gym brand jocks are legit. Same as the bike ones, I almost forgot how comfy they were. Will probably order some more to have as every day wear.

Wearing a jock under every day clothing is like a secret that i get to keep that no one else is invited to be a part of unless i wear a dress shirt and trousers that are sheer, where the straps are visible on the back of the leg, and the waistband shows at the small of my back. Usually these are covered by a crew or cardigan sweater, and/or a sport coat. Still i think its kind of fun, in the same way that a privately located tattoo or body jewelry can be very empowering.

I think the jockstrap's adoption by certain gay male subcultures makes younger guys feel less secure wearing them, and the default "hetero" choice became boxer briefs or compression shorts. That's not to blame gay men (I am one), because our fashion choices shouldn't dictate what other guys wear, and in fact straight guys tend to adopt gay trends at the end of their gay popularity cycle anyway (see: metrosexual, lumbersexual, manscaping, etc.).

It's a shame because jockstraps really are great for working out in. They also let the taint and ass breathe during workouts, take up less space than shorts in a gym bag, and have less material to gather sweat and germs. I'm convinced they'll become mainstream again in the next 5 to 10 years. In the meantime, guys who like 'em should lead by example.

These are my roommates favorites. He wears them all day somedays. He had never worn a jock before college and I got him to try one. About 3 years ago now we went shopping around this time of year, he had kind of become resigned to the fact I was going to bug him and offer to loan him a jock every practice and match, so decided to buy some of his own. We found the 2 pack Bikes for like $4.99 and bought 8 packs. Since then have bought double that amount. He keeps about six of them in rotation and has plenty of backups for several years to come.

He will wear other brands for practice, but if he is going to wear one as underwear its always these grey band Bikes.

Such a shame you can't get the 'traditional' bike. The gym ones are equally is good, but I miss the logo the new grey colour is really nice though - fit is exactly the same considering from the same factory.

We have a couple of old traditional Bikes at school, with the wider striped waist, I like them for the look and the industrial strength support, but my roommate who has worn them both likes the grey band better than any jock he has used.

I don't know that it is a "they let" situation, it just happens that way. They had quite a stockpile of jocks left over from years passed as usage declined but their purchasing habits didn't.
I managed to keep the coach purchasing new ones a couple times a year so we didn't totally deplete the old classic stash, lol. He says there are more of us wearing a jock now than anytime since the 90's on any wrestling team he has coach.
