I don’t think guys don’t wear them for fear of being seen as gay. Young guys in gym classes today just change clothes for PE. No shower or change of underwear. They are not part of a culture that did. They have no knowledge of this ritual. I do see guys wearing them at the gym but they tend to be on older men. Some of these guys are so well build. They look tuff. I’m surprised at the legs and shorts on top of shorts. It would be too hot for me. I just wear clean underwear and gym shorts then totally switch it out post shower.

I don't know that it is a "they let" situation, it just happens that way. They had quite a stockpile of jocks left over from years passed as usage declined but their purchasing habits didn't.
I managed to keep the coach purchasing new ones a couple times a year so we didn't totally deplete the old classic stash, lol. He says there are more of us wearing a jock now than anytime since the 90's on any wrestling team he has coach.
Where do you go?

I think one reason jocks seem out of style for gym workouts (what they were intended for) now they come in too many feminine colors & styles. Yea, color is fun....but who wants to be caught dead in one. This sounds sexist....Just bring back the old school jock strap vs some neon gadget & nobody gets hurt.

I think they should start selling them again alongside other workout attire like speedos, goggles etc. Would help bring them back into the mainstream more. But the way things are going I’m hoping for a trend change where they come back into fashion.

If you have muscular legs and butt, and actually do squats in the gym, you wear a jock or tights, unless you have small testicles. Anyone who got the boys smashed will know what I mean. Freeball works till you get asscrack on your shorts. You'll know what I mean too if you workup a sweat.

How do you feel about jockstraps at the gym?
Is it appropriate?
Is it too 'obvious'?
Are they practical and sensible?
Do they get you attention?
Been wearing a jockstrap for 50+ years and not planning on stopping any time soon. Appropriate, yes. Obvious, does it matter, it's a man's underwear. Practical and sensible, yes I think so. Attention getter, I don't really know if other men or women look at the outline of my jockstrap. For over ten years I wore a jockstrap and cup for Ta-Kwan-Do. The out line of the straps and cup always showed. For the life of me I can't understand the controversy of a man wearing a jockstrap.

Just not normal outside of the US for the most part.

Honestly wish they would come back in fashion like that. Now it’s all compression shorts/tights. Feel like a missed out not growing up in the USA

Stop moaning will you just buy some compression shorts/tights. They are all the fashion. And all you young guys look great in them. From my Pervy point of view. Maybe the jock strap will come back in fashion who knows. But for now the fashion is them compression shorts/tights.

Wore my jock to the gym yesterday morning for a long run. Got soaked and sweaty. Wore it again later that evening when I went for my lifting session. This particular jock is a Bike swimmer style, white. Can easily see my cock in the pouch, especially when it's wet.

Jockstrap always, perfect for cardio, perfect for leg day, bench, rowing... it's has the support you need and the freedom you want.
I swear by them and always encourage my mates and any lad at the gym to try them. Compression shorts just don't do it for me, big thighs and compression shorts is absolute hell.

I wear a jock under my Lycra running shorts - best of both worlds!

I wore my McDavid swimmer jock on Saturday, for a leg workout, under medium length shorts. Changed in the locker room before and after. No one seemed to notice.

I honestly think people don't care. I personally think guys have better things to do than questioning anyone's gear choices and if something strikes me as surprising or catches my eye is usually regarding poor hygiene practices or the always ridiculous towel-dance

Being a Londoner where jocks aren’t the norm do you ever feel self conscious changing into one/walking around in one? 99% of the time I’m wearing one at the gym and I change there too but I’m always aware that it’s something that’s more out of place than usual... I just try to do me and not be too concerned about what others think.

I've been in the gym most of my life, working out 3-4 times a week for the past 10years and I've never seen a guy in a jockstrap.

Me neither. The only jockstraps I have seen were at sex parties and even there these are rare sights. Hipster underwear (in between a slip and a tight boxer) seems the norm these days.

I think the jockstrap's adoption by certain gay male subcultures makes younger guys feel less secure wearing them, and the default "hetero" choice became boxer briefs or compression shorts. That's not to blame gay men (I am one), because our fashion choices shouldn't dictate what other guys wear, and in fact straight guys tend to adopt gay trends at the end of their gay popularity cycle anyway (see: metrosexual, lumbersexual, manscaping, etc.).

It's a shame because jockstraps really are great for working out in. They also let the taint and ass breathe during workouts, take up less space than shorts in a gym bag, and have less material to gather sweat and germs. I'm convinced they'll become mainstream again in the next 5 to 10 years. In the meantime, guys who like 'em should lead by example.

But when you are working out in a jockstrap, you have to be aware what shorts you wear because a sweaty, wet crotch is not up to everyone's appreciation. I would feel a bit unsecure with a wet sweaty print in my shorts.

I always seem to have trouble finding a jock that will fit properly. Don't wear them often, but, when I do buy them the butt straps aren't tight enough to really do much supporting the backside. Guess I have a small ass for my waist size of 32 to 34 inches. Any suggestions on what type to buy that have shorter straps in the back?
