So recently ive been using the treadmill every morning at the local y and honestly I feel like I need more support than the normal baggy boxers I wear. I'm not hung or anything, though I would say i'm a bit bigger than average, but a few miles into the run my cock and balls get hot and sweaty and just kind of flop around. A few days ago when I was showering right after my run, my testicles actually felt kind of sore from moving around so much.

I get that jocks are kind of old school, but I remember wearing one as a kid when I played baseball and I liked the feel of it. I also find them kind of hot. I think ive only seen one guy at my gym wearing one and he was probably in his 40s. Would guys view me as a weirdo in the locker room for wearing a jock? Or am I just better off going and buying some compression shorts to workout in? Finally, what store should I buy one in, I would need to try it on cuz I have no idea what size id be.

Start a new trend wear a jock for the support. Forget about what the other guys think, wearing a jock is not weird. You can buy a jock at most sporting goods stores. Most places will not allow you to try them on for sanitary reasons. They are sold by waist size s , m, l . measure your waist and look for that size on the package, for what will fit. Good luck .

i'd go at least a size up from your waist size...lots of jocks are undersized.
and of course nobody in the locker room will think you're weird for wearing one.

I find the whole gym / locker room debate about jockstraps slightly weird.

I'm firmly in the group that will still wear them, and vaguely enjoy doing so, though it's more of a utility thing really. I HAVE had pain / discomfort from running in just underwear, though that's better than just loose baggy shorts.

I think given that they are ( originally ) an item of sporting equipment, with an obvious purpose, which for many men IS quite necessary, I don't quite understand why people are so reticent about it...

I can't imagine a similar debate about whether it's OK to wear trainers with socks, or whether it's OK to take a towel for the shower ... so ... not clear what's up with it ...

Don't get me wrong. I DO see that whilst wearing ( just ) a jockstrap may, sometimes, be OK for some gay/fetish nightclubs, it's not something you'd want to wear to the supermarket, bank, car dealership or whatever.

But in a gym ? Under other clothing, other than a few moments changing in the locker room ? C'mon ...

Re: your question. I tend to stick to 'Bike' brand, though there are one are two others just as good. I get them mail order in the UK.

I totally agree with this.
Especially " I'm firmly in the group that will still wear them, and vaguely enjoy doing so, though it's more of a utility thing really. I HAVE had pain / discomfort from running in just underwear, though that's better than just loose baggy shorts."

i wear a jockstrap at the gym and don't get any odd looks in the locker room when i change.

compression shorts are good for support but i find them to be way too hot and sweaty during a good work out. the jockstrap under basketball shorts is ideal.

Black Bike for workout and casual wear here too.
Old school but a Jock never goes out of style only the guys who beleive they are out style is... he's keeping up with other trends and not setting one for himself.. he's only being like everyone else. Be yourslef be an individual and Jock-up! oh an just hang dry. the natural scent is a true jock guy.

While you can clearly infer from my name that I'm a HUGE fan of the jockstrap, I feel that some responses here are a bit simplistic. It's obvious, as you say, that jocks are "old school," and I agree with the posters who say, "Jock up and don't worry about the other guys." I also endorse the idea of wearing a jockstrap proudly; maybe you'll start a trend!
Further, compression shorts SUCK; all they do is press down your balls. They are not "uplifting" in either sense of the word. Jockstraps (Bikes are the best) do that. Wear one.
My "simplistic" remark above only means that lots of guys, esp young guys, see jockstraps as gay; the open ass seems to them an invitation to fuck your ass. Gay porn hasn't helped this image (tho' one might wonder why those guys even know about jocks in gay porn, mightn't one?), so you might get some stares or even comments from younger guys at your gym (tho' that seems doubtful; younger guys aren't usually that bold). I just wanted to state that the "don't worry about other people's opinions" remarks are valid, but it's certainly true that it's more complex than that.
So... WEAR A BIKE JOCK. PROUDLY. DO IT NOW. YOUR BALLS WILL THANK YOU.
(Oh, and what does being "hung" have to do with jocks? "Hung" means one has a large penis, but that's not the painful area; balls are. Just getting terms right... : )

I wear a jock all the time at home and daily wear .. Haven't wore at gym ... I want to but not sure how the guys would react .. I'm looking for shorts that won't show the strap when I work out ..
But in general love them and very comfortable when you find the right one ..

You kidding? You should DEFINITELY show strap when you work out. Hotter'n'fuck.

Once you switch to a jockstrap, its all you'll want to wear.

But if your concerned that you'll look "old school," forego the standard white Bike brand jock you'd pick up at your local sport store. There are now a number of makers designing fashionable, modern options. I order mine from Topdrawers Underwear, Underwear for Men.

That's crazy talk!!!

I wear mine under tight lycra shorts, or running tights.

I'm sure some people can see what I must be wearing underneath in the right lighting conditions; hopefully more from the belt/ legstraps rather than the front pouch, but it doesn't really matter. It would take more than a glance; they'd need to be looking deliberately...

I'm a human being with a good body for my age ( 50 next year ). I do gym, running, occasional swimming. I don't think it makes any sense for me to want to entirely hide it away...

Why do you give a crap what other people might/would think if you wore a jock strap to work out? It's designed to give you support, which you say you really need, so get one...problem solved.

Besides, people would probably only find it weird if you wore a jock strap with no shorts over it to work out.

.

Totally agree with MisterVIP. Get one and wear what you like man.

I wear them all the time without hassle from other guys. Occasionally get the 'hey is that comfortable?' type question.

BIKE are the best for sure. Wideband.

Contrary to what most have said, I just had a conversation with a gym buddy recently about how nobody wears jocks anymore except older guys. Everyone tends to wear Under Armour or Nike boxer brief type underwear. It's definitely a generational thing.

That said..I do agree, just wear what you want and have confidence when you do. If someone thinks it is weird that is their problem. Who knows, maybe you'll open some people's minds and start a trend.

Most of my locker room experience, which always is with me putting on a jockstrap, is in a team locker room setting, which I realize is a lot more comfortable setting for putting on and being seen in a jockstrap. From time to time over the years as we traveled to tournament our coaches have secured places along the way for us to stop and workout or limber up and practice. Most of the time this is at another small college or high school the coaches have a contact at, but sometimes it has been at a Y or other similar type gym facility. These have always been interested because here we come in and basically invade the regulars "space" and even those on the team who don't wear a jock at least change underwear and we all always shower naked. There is safety and comfort in numbers so we don't ever really feel out of place but I always wonder if our actions in those locker rooms ever have a long lasting affect on the regulars at those places?
One time I was visiting a recruit and to my surprise he and several guys on his team wore a jockstrap for practice. I had to ask how they came about knowing to wear one. One of the guys told me they do like the college guys do, I ask him to explain and it seems another team did much like ours and stopped in there to practice and he and some of his buddies notices them wearing a jock and the went out that day and bought their own.
I hope I always have the ball (pun intended) to jock up when needed no matter were I am at or who else is there.
