I think in the next season hopefully a lot of the focus shifts to Joe/Charlie. His storyline is developed more and he, rather than Nick, has the central "struggle" (though a lot of it is admittedly framed in Nick trying to help him). I think he'll perform well in those scenes and hopefully get some deserved credit for his performance

not the best thing, but I’m very excited to watch Joe through some of those scene. He really captivated me in some moments of season 1 so seeing him with some heavier stuff, he’s going to be so good

Fair point, however I would argue that the number of gay men who are very clearly identifying with this series, suggests that being written by a woman has had very little negative effect on its authenticity.
