Gay People: I Would Never Let "Queers" Near My Children

Joe the Plumber, aka Samuel Wurzelbacher, sat down for an lengthy interview with Christianity Today to discuss his views on the future of the Republican party. Wurzelbacher took the opportunity to speak out against gay marriage, which he says is wrong. The unlikely conservative spokesman went so far as to say he doesn't allow openly gay people "anywhere near" his children.
The word "queer," Wurzelbacher noted, "means strange and unusual."
Christianity Today: In the last month, same-sex marriage has become legal in Iowa and Vermont. What do you think about same-sex marriage at a state level?
Wurzelbacher: At a state level, it's up to them. I don't want it to be a federal thing. I personally still think it's wrong. People don't understand the dictionary--it's called queer. Queer means strange and unusual. It's not like a slur, like you would call a white person a honky or something like that. You know, God is pretty explicit in what we're supposed to do--what man and woman are for. Now, at the same time, we're supposed to love everybody and accept people, and preach against the sins. I've had some friends that are actually homosexual. And, I mean, they know where I stand, and they know that I wouldn't have them anywhere near my children. But at the same time, they're people, and they're going to do their thing.
In the vein of George W. Bush and Michael Steele, Joe the Plumber also indicated that he wouldn't run for public office until the Lord had given him a cue. "God hasn't said, 'Joe, I want you to run.' I feel more important to just encourage people to get involved, one way or another. If I can inspire some leaders, that would be great." Joe added: "I don't know if I want to be a leader."

Fortunately, most gay men wouldn't get near him or his offspring with a 10 foot pole. :irked:

Hehehe. He'll need a babysitter one of these days. I hope every one of him that he meets calls in "queer".

Main street America makes me sick. Why so you guys even bother bringing up such a thread? This plumber guy is just a reflex of of this sick society, where the highest porn GDP in the work goes hand in hand with the highest consenting age (urghhh) in the world. Instead of medling in the same soup, do some real CHANGE!

Anyone interested can read the entire interview here: it's really not that long.

"Joe" the "Plumber" repeats that oft-spouted canard so beloved by the right: "I have nothing personal against gays, I have gay friends", but then goes on to attempt to rationalize why their religion insists that their civil rights mustn't be recognized (or, in "Joe's" case, why he wouldn't let his kids near them). Dan Savage tore that argument to shreds in a column last December, skewering Sarah Palin (among others) who have used it. As Dan wrote:
I've seen the same "logic" used by bigots to explain why they can't possibly be racist, on account of some (invisible) black friends no one's ever met.

You won't believe the changes you'll see in the US in the next 12 years.

Highest age of consent? Each state has its own laws about such things. Some are 16, others are 18.

The FOX/RNC machine is on the move man...theyre prepping Huckabee for the 'celebrity type,' Jindal for the 'christian conservative type,' Romney as the 'economic guy,' Palin as 'the just like you and I' milf, and Crist as the 'moderate republican,' if you pay attention, you'll see it

Oh liberals are sooo funny! If FNC is so out of touch with the American public, how come it kicks CNN and MSNBC's butt on a daily basis?

Simple math...
There's only one televised news source for any conservative to get their info.
Liberals have their choice of several, hence why they split all of the potential viewers. Then again, more people watch "Assy McGee" on Adult Swim than anything on Faux News, so I wouldn't be trumpeting some kind of victory here. More people would rather watch a cartoon about a crime-fighting, talking ass, instead of a group of news anchors and pundits continually make asses of themselves.

You're right. Liberals ARE funny.

That doesn't tell me anything about FNC....or any other news outlet. What it does reflect is the sad and superficial state of the country.

I've always thought that at least part of this comes from TV's increasingly becoming "old media": everyone I know personally gets most of his/her news and commentary from the internet. AM radio attracts a more conservative audience for much the same reason.

Somehow, you get the news that a cartoon on Adult Swim gets more ratings than Faux News and that doesn't tell you anything about the network? Hmmm...

Let's put things numerically.
Cable News

P2+ Total Day
FNC – 1,320,000 viewers
CNN – 794,000 viewers
MSNBC –543,000 viewers
CNBC – 248,000 viewers
HLN – 341,000 viewers

Here are the big 5 cable news networks. Four are liberal, one conservative. According to the ratings of April 29th, there are essentially 1.9 Million people who get their news from a "liberally biased" news source. They have up to four choices for this info based on what networks they have access to. And yes, contrary to belief there are people out there who either don't have cable or don't have a cable package that gives them access to all the same networks. Faux News is not "kicking ass" because they're the best. They're #1 in their field because conservatives have no other reliable choice for televised cable news. Major difference.

ANYHOO... let's get back to the OP at hand and how Joe The Plumber doesn't trust queers around his children. I guess none of them will be learning how to accessorize their outfits properly, how to make a perfect quiche or how to vogue anytime soon.

Somehow I don't think that any of those items are on "Joe" the "Plumber's" to do list, VB.
