How dumb is it to kill a girl in a hotel room registered under your name then flee the country?

ya i guess my left brain doesn't want to believe anybody could be that stupid and therefore it must be a set up. and the part where it happened on the aniversary of halloways disappearance adds to the weirdness.

But the crime novelist in me wants there to be a better twist to this story and more character development in the suspect, probably wishful thinking

nah dahmer never did anything for me. not even a little. he would never have gotten close enuff to my biceps to touch them let alone saute them.

and come on, we don't even have the csi lab evidence that he was involved in EITHER the halloway disappearance OR the murder in peru. until then he's just another slacker.

Officially, this is true. However....as it was said earlier: "running just makes you look guilty".

Dahmer didn't do anything for me either!

The guy has a judge for a dad and is very confident, he is not the type to run because he is scared. If anything, he's probably a lot smarter than most when it comes to law and getting away with pretty much anything he wants. .

I believe he confessed about killing Natalie to an undercover journalist and it was captured on hidden camera. I think the double jeopardy law saves him. Even OJ can confess to killing his wife and Ron now an nothing can happen to him.

as it was said earlier: "running just makes you look guilty".

i didnt' say it was a good choice but when there's a dead woman in your hotel room (regardless if you killed her or not) , and you've already been tried and convicted by the media for another womans death, (even though she's technically just "missing") you're probably in a fight or flight mode, and maybe it looks like the least worst option at the time.

and if he had stayed in peru, maybe the local magistrate would have had him swinging from the gallows by sundown.

well i'm not a lawyer but there's a big differnece between the two, and the reason I dont' think double jeopardy applies to the Halloway case:

OJ was tried and acquitted

Joran was arrested but never charged

I know they had leagal problems with that video, and I think the reason the aruban authorities couldn't use the tape of Joran confessing is because it was technically considered coerced and/or because he was under the influence at the time?

this is where we need a lawyer

RIP Van Der Sloot

Guilty

If this is true, he's definitely guilty. I've studied serial killers for years and people don't kill themselves if they are innocent of the charges. in fact, he's never really had to pay for what he was accused of, so he had to feel pretty trapped at this point.

You don't have to be smart to be a serial killer, in fact, he could have been very good at it and only had a couple of people become obvious victims.

If you can hide a body well enough, you could also fake your death to get out of the limelight. I've seen it all in what i've read.

Interesting conflicting reports today... Some say he has committed suicide, others say he was spotted in Chile on the run.

And apparently, there is some fairly obvious evidence in the hotel room that he had to be the one who killed her. Plus, there are witnesses reporting they went into the room together, and they're on camera together at a casino earlier in the night.

Interpol: Joran van der Sloot arrested in Santiago – This Just In - CNN.com Blogs

Joran van der Sloot has been arrested and is in police custody in Santiago, Chile, an Interpol spokesperson in Santiago told CNN.

Van der Sloot, who was previously considered a suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba, is the main suspect in this week's slaying of 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez, officials said. She was was found Wednesday in a Lima, Peru, hotel room registered to van der Sloot. Chilean police told CNN that paperwork showed that van der Sloot entered Chile on Wednesday.

Peruvian Interior Minister Octavio Salazar Miranda said Thursday that Peru has made arrangements with Interpol to extradite van der Sloot.

There is a difference with looking for a suspect and one being caught.

Is a 3 page Michael Jackson is sick thread to be merged with a new one once he is caught?

Poppycock. This thread is about him being CAUGHT. Different topic.

Exactly. Now this thread will be about why they were merged. But that's what this place has become. An exercise in frustration and boredom.

Once (and if) the oil spill is plugged no one better dare to start a new thread about it.

Mem, I'm sorry you did not like my decision to merge the two threads, but one thread on the subject is really enough. This is exactly we are trying to curtail in the *Politics* forum and for that matter every other forum as well.
My rationale was same subject further development.
