    The band is airbrushed off if the manufacturer doesn't want to pay the product placement fees.

    There are other considerations. TBS for instance, has its own edition copy of The Tomas Crown Affair, with the naughty bits edited out, and more importantly, all references to PEPSI removed. So you have the lady drinking from a brushed alminium can without any text/paint on it. Can't show a PEPSI can in Atlanta, a Coke city :)

    Similarly, there is a version of Golden Eye where the scene where the tank goes through the truck full of Perrier Cans which has been edited to remove all references to Perrier.

    So removing a brand would be quite common in movies. And there are times where the brands are made obvious. It all depends on how much the manufacturer is willing to pay.
