A federal judge has backed CIA efforts to conceal information about treatment of detainees, even if the suppressed records contain details about illegal activity on the part of the intelligence agency.

While this honestly doesn't surprise me one bit, it's obviously a very bad thing. It does not take much intelligence (no pun intended) to conclude that this will simply set the stage for further abuse and torture.

What a load of horseshit. The government wants all this secrecy, but when the people want it it seems to be a no-no. The NSA can spy on us, but the people paid by tax dollars don't have to show us WTF they're doing.

What a load of horseshit. The government wants all this secrecy, but when the people want it it seems to be a no-no. The NSA can spy on us, but the people paid by tax dollars don't have to show us WTF they're doing.

Of course, which of course reveals monumental hypocrisy, and illustrates that our government does not care about the American people at all; they just want us to shut up and do what we're told, and let them do whatever the fuck they want. The government does, however, care immensely how the American people affect them -- they know there are many Americans who oppose their policies, so they want to prevent them from ever being able to challenge them (hence the desire for all the surveillance) so they can maintain their power.

What is missing from this news story is a bit of foundation. The ACLU has asked for an absurd number of files. All of which are considered secret. At no point in history has any organization been able to request secret files; that just doesn't make sense. Further, the CIA/FBI/NSA ect are restricted in the types of torture they can use. There are already watchdog organizations set up in the government to enforce the rules. Simply as a matter of common sense, we can't have civilian organization inspecting the secret operations of the government.

Congress has made a bunch of files available, and will make more available in the future.
