He was in a serious accident. There's nothing wrong with his face.

I had no idea how severe his accident was. Hopefully his mental faculties are OK. The brain is a strange organ, and even with the severity of his new head shape, the brain can sometimes repair itself and act as normal. I haven't seen him live yet, but it looks like he's cammed these past couple of days and there's a screenshot:
