Slam, Door closed. I remember the good old days when it was fun here in ETC.
You know I keep hearing about the good old days, here and in life. Was it before 9/11? Was it before most of the world was torn apart by war and terrorism? Perhaps it was before the economy declined? Whether we are on a forum like LPSG or reminiscing with our friends at Happy Hour; these are going to be the good old days for us someday. Why not make them a little better by doing something positive instead of just bitching how life used to be better?
I don't know about any good old days, but the closing of that particular door was pretty frustrating. How often do you find a thread with so many people in considerable agreement on an emotionally charged topic?
Anyone puzzled at what we are talking about can read this thread.

I was wondering why I felt a little bit happier in the pants today.
Better late than never, I suppose.
It's still an interesting place. The question I need to ask at this point are
What's so interesting about yammering on and on about a banned member, especially once it's known why they were ejected?
Is it worth opening up an entirely new thread related to the one which was closed? Sounds like shades of the past- http://www.lpsg.org/57057-why-has-big-dirigible-been.html and its followup by the now temp. banned HB- http://www.lpsg.org/72679-why-has-why-has-big.html
Yup- member banned, thread closed, new thread bemoaning closing of the first thread...actually, Mem, it seems as if things are quite similar to what they were back then.
To keep the place interesting, create topics which pop into your head and respond to topics which exist. In the words of I don't know who (and I'm too lazy to find out), 'Together we can!'
Think of it as a psychological draining of the boil, NL...it's essential for the healing of those who were afflicted. After all, this is (ostensibly) a support group, no?

Because it's history. Recent history that impacts the life of the board. People like to discuss history.
I see nothing wrong with discussing the banning or discussing the closing of the thread. If some people don't want to discuss those topics, they don't have to. No one is forcing anyone to read anything here.
I don't care about penis enlargement or circumcision and I don't want to read about them. I think they are stupid topics. Therefore, I never click threads pertaining to them. But if somebody else wants to, then who the fuck am I to tell them what to do?
I get tired of people telling others what they should or should not post about. Like when someone has a question and five people jump on them for starting a topic that was covered last year. Yet if they do resurrect an old thread, they get bitched at for that.
(and I'll defend your right to complain about this type of thread as well!... confuse yet? Cuz I am!)
What's so wrong with carpe diem?. It's way cool to have found some good times. I agree with Nudeyorker. Try to understand and enjoy the changes you have no control over......
Gorgeous song. Thank You for reminding me of it. R.I.P Freddie.
Draining of a boil...when put that way it seems to become clearer.
In all fairness, I was trying to get Mem to open up some new threads- he's come up with some interesting topics and posts in his time here, I'd hate to see him exit.
You mean it wasn't fond thoughts of me? *pout*
I said happier, sugarbutt...thoughts of you make me happy in the pants every day.
If you'll allow me to disagree... what I read WASN'T people agreeing. It was people sitting there, talking and bashing members, and making grand spaculations that weren't completely accurate.
Forgive me for thinking that's fun, Calboner... but I supported the decision to close it.
Having said that, Northland sums up my thoughts in his first post..
Oooh, people posting things they think on the interwebs without being completely certain of their veracity. Mods, save us from ourselves! Can I get an amen? Hallelujah!
One day you might understand that it's not all about you...and it's usually better to step aside and let these things blow themselves out naturally rather than play schoolmarm.
Totally agreed JB.
Northland's first post caught my attention too.
I'm pleased the other thread was closed. Reading it gave me visions of old women sitting knitting at public hangings.
Besides that IMHO it's wrong when a thread is allowed to progress with the main theme bashing a member who has been banned. Remember they are no longer here to defend themselves and whatever they have done to be banned from this forum they are still a human being and should be afforded some discretion.
Thanks for the advice, Hazelgod. I'm the last person that thinks things are all about them, but I appreciate the fact you have taken the time to offer your opinion.
Personally, and again, just my thoughts here... that thread was going into a place where people felt like randomly tossing out bullshit speculations. All that does is promote rumours. No point in letting that happen, when all a person has to do is ask for the actual truth.
You suck at saccharine sarcasm.
Perhaps, perhaps not...but you just described 90% of the topics on this site, as well as most others on the internet. If that's your litmus test for closing threads, you'd better get busy shutting down a shitload of others, starting with the circumcision and science denial circuses.
I think people need to understand that alot of people were affected by Monster and maybe wanted to share why they agreed or disagreed with the decision. There will always be those who think its a total waste of time to talk about anything they don't want to talk about.
I was satisfied with Kotch's explanation and i dont really care about the thread closing because i had my 2 cents already written.
