So, I'm thinking about getting back into pvt lessons for myself, but I have to wonder; should I take the traditional loose fitting pants or buy a gi with an adjustable strap so everything doesn't shift around during exercises, kumite, kata, etc, etc?
    All replies welcome.

I wear compression shorts, a jock and a cup with my loose fitting gi pants in jui jitsu class. The drawback is the pants don't stay up all that well find myself retying the pants throughout class

That's-good, only prob is- Isshinryu Karate tends to lean towards traditional Gi's. Only ones like any other Karate to wear alternate Gi's are the degree black belts.

Why would you do private lessons?
Either way it probubly won't matter because you should be wearing a Cup for any kind of sparring which will probubly be fairly common (otherwise it's basically a waste of time)

do they not have a drawstring
I havn't worn gi pants in quite awhile (regularly at least) I tend to wear some MMA shorts with a double velcro system, they arn't coming down by accident that's for sure...hell I've had trouble getting them off when I needed to get my shower after training

honestly I'd advise against Isshinryu Karate, in fact I'd advise against most Karate schools, what are your goals for training in Martial Arts

My goals are MY GOALS. As to whether or not Isshinryu, well, it's what I started out with. 'Sides, I might not pick it up again soon and look into oter karate styles.

That's what I wear, but my pants stay up fine. I had my wife sew a drawstring in them cause the elastic gets worn easily by all the movement. I have a meaty buttocks so they wouldn't have fallen off, but no one needs to see your butt crack below jock strap when you kick.
