    Good evening everyone! :biggrin1:

Here's my situation: Last night, I was in the middle of beating off like normal. I normally go at it for at least a half hour to an hour, easy. Sometimes hour and a half to 2 hours or more, if I repeatedly practice bringing myself to the edge of the "point of no return" just before ejaculation (which, by the way, brings on POWERFUL orgasms, in case anyone wanted to try).

However, during last night's session and all of my longer masturbation sessions, after a while I notice a dull ache. Not in the groin, just in the shaft itself. It's as if my penis is trying to tell me, "You've been at this a little too long." Stranger still, when the ache initially starts, it actually makes me even more aroused than I already am at the time. It's actually a turn-on in and of itself. (Yes, I know: weird) After a while though, it does start to hurt and I do have to stop.

I am age 23 and in perfect health. I know that we younger men can keep an erection forever and a day, if you'll let us:wink:.

    But my questions are:
    1) am I keeping my erections up too long?
    2) am I hurting myself by keeping it up too long?
    3) how long is too long to keep it up, anyway?

    All comments welcome.

    Many Thanks:smile: :biggrin1:  :biggrin1:

Well, sir, i'm no doctor... but... The very nature of an erection limits the flow of blood out of the penis. Of course, at the hight of erection, almost no blood is flowing out, and therefor, no new blood can flow in. I suspect the dull pain you are feeling is actually do to a preliminary stage of ischemia. I don't know if it is healthy to do this repeatedly, and you should probably talk to a doctor about it.

I also can't see anything wrong with it, and certainly not as long as you are not using any artificial means for keeping it hard (like e.g. a too tight cock-ring).
I certainly prefer to gradually build up to the more powerful orgasms myself - and also with a partner I can go on for several hours at times. - I've never thought that there could be a limit for how long you can keep going - I guess one eventually will get plain exhausted though  And as long as you stop if it hurts - no worries! Just enjoy!

Just let it go down some from time to time. The penis has like a third of the blood oxygen that the rest of the body does. It's kind of a dead end for blood flow. Add some rerouting and missing veins and arteries if you are cut.

Dicks depend on good blood flow, not only to function correctly, but like all other body parts.

    Ask your doctor.

You may have noticed that TV commercials for ED medications such as Levitra, Cialis, and Viagra warn about erections lasting too long. Certainly yours wasn't a four hour erection, but my golden rule is when there's pain it's time to stop doing whatever is causing the pain. Pain is after all the body's way of saying something isn't right... except where muscle building is concerned. But your dick isn't a muscle. And if you break your boner at 23, that will be a dang shame.

So check with your doctor and see what he has to say. Don't be embarrassed to ask. Doctors hear all sorts of questions from patients and it is their job to answer your questions with facts and without prejudice.

As for being turned on by the initial ache... some people find that pain can be erotic. Just be sure the pain isn't from something being damaged. From the sounds of it you may want to explore sadomasochism (always with someone you can trust!)

Fair point. The reason why I do it is mentioned in the original post:

"when the ache (in the shaft) initially starts, it actually makes me even more aroused than I already am at the time. It's actually a turn-on in and of itself. (Yes, I know: weird)"

It doesn't hurt when I start beating off, just after an hour or 2 of werking it:wink: .

Now, that I think of it, I do remember some of those erectile dysfunction medicine ads on TV say essentially that if a penile erection lasts for longer than 4 hours, consider it a medical emergency and get immediate help.

No, I don't use special cockrings or sex toys, I just use my hand or my partner's (old-fashioned and cheap, mostly just cheap).

Thanks for the advice and keep the comments coming in.:biggrin1:

I've been edging for 25 years and can testify to it's power. Focusing your energy and soul at the point of the edge and holding it there is nothing short of magick. Even though I can edge for hours I do not stay hard for more than an hour at a time. Lay off it a little while. Let your Cock tell you what it wants. Let it rest and then bring it back. You have no idea what you're missing if you don't ride the edge.

A thrombosis can occur during periods of frequent and prolonged sexual activity, especially fellatio. It is usually harmless and self-corrects within a few weeks.

Priapism is a painful and potentially harmful medical condition in which the erect penis does not return to its flaccid state. The causative mechanisms are poorly understood but involve complex neurological and vascular factors. Potential complications include ischaemia, thrombosis, and impotence. In serious cases the condition may result in gangrene, which may necessitate amputation
